How many using this case have had it survive a significant drop?

Trying to decide between this one, a Commuter, or LifeProof if I can find one on Craigslist.

So its been a few months since I bought a couple of these cases and thought I'd post my findings after heavy use.

First off, the Executive Field case, while looking a lot nicer than the regular Field Case, has stretched out far too much for my liking. The 4S no longer fits snug in there, if you grip the sides of the case and shake it hard enough, the phone will actually dislodge (usually from the bottom) which makes me really question the already minimal protection that it provides. I discontinued using it over a month ago in favor of the Field Case.

The regular Field Case is very rugged and durable and, thus far, hasn't stretched out. In fact, three days ago while on a construction site, I was fumbling to put the phone into the side pocket of my pants and missed the pocket entirely. The phone dropped two stories, nailed a beam while spinning on the way down, and landed on its back on top of a pile of cinder blocks. The case has two clear divots on either side of the front lip showing where it hit the beam, but the phone itself was _mostly_ fine. I say _mostly_ because the vibration feature has stopped working. I've got Square Trade so will be taking it in and may get a replacement. But I was really surprised it didn't shatter the glass front/back considering the height of the fall, the landing zone and the mid-air collision it suffered. Very durable case.

Both cases have camera openings that interfere with the flash. I don't know if this has been addressed yet but I rarely take pictures in the dark with the iPhone so its not been an issue for me. I just mention it because its obvious that they didn't address this with the version of cases I own.

Both cases have material around the docking port that interferes with a few of my dock points. My trucks' charger/iPod interface cable, the same for the cable on my Mazda CX9 and also one of my clock/radio chargers. I used an exacto knife to trim that stuff off and that resolved the problem on both cases.

Would I buy again? Yes...for the plain Field Case. The Executive Case...no thanks. It looks nicer, is svelte, but it just lost its shape far too quickly. I've even tried heating it get it to fit right again but as of yet...no dice. I think once it stretches like this, you are SOL and must throw it away. I called Magpul for a replacement but they've been very negligent and returning emails/phone calls and frankly, for what I paid, I'm not that fussed over it.

Thank you for your posts. So what do you attribute to the stretching out of the Exec case? Do you take it off and on a lot? Or just normal use.

My Exec's cases are okay. One loosened up a bit, nothing like you report. The other is fine. However, my daughter's is horrible.

One important 'pro' for me is a case that doesn't stretch out over time. I do switch between 'naked' , a Morphie Juice pack and my everyday case (i.e. the Exec).

I solved the 'flash' problem with a sharpie for both the Exec and Field cases. A trimmed the connector from an extension USB/30pin cable to fit the Exec and Field for my car...However the Field doesn't work on one speaker Dock and the Exec is touch and go with another (Apple). Basically the cases are too thick and any trimming will not make it work.

So even though my personal cases are 'ok' I'm seeing this as a future problem. And the Field case is nice...but I can't fix it to dock.

So I'm going back to the Incipio NGP transparent mercury. I've had that case so long and it does change shape or loosen up. Inexpensive and the buttons are much better than the Magpul.

The NGP does it all...good protection, docks with everything, good buttons, price point is good, no flash problems, and doesn't stretch at all. I just didn't like the front lip (which offers great protection, like the Field) that much.

But the NGP certainly is one case that I feel the most comfortable with...I can more careless with the iPHone 4. And taking on/off seems not to bother it.

Any other opinions? Sad, cause I do like the Magpul cases.

I'm still using my executive field case. I take it off once a week to clean up the phone and it still fits fine. I have a cheap bumper I used for a while but I don't like the way the edges of the bumper overlap over the edge of the phone. I may have to try that Incipio case but it looks a little blocky on the phone. viewfly could you post some pictures of the Incipio on your phone from a few different angles?

Thanks

I purchased this case 1.5 years ago, for the ATT iPhone 4. The mute switch is a bit off...I don't think they changed that, but its fine, it doesn't cover the switch. The volume/on/off button are like butter...smooth, smoother than the naked phone. I'm ordering a new one. I think they have added some black around the lens opening...but I found it unnecessary.

It's slightly thicker than the Exec, but thinner than the Field. But gives that 2 mm front lip protection.

It is a very practical case. I got use to the front lip...and it does afford great protection. The Exec was a bit shallow for me (1mm); the Field better (2mm). Esp with the Exec getting loose a bit...sometimes one corner seemed flush with the phone. But the Field is so thick it cannot dock with anything

There are nicer looking cases than the NGP...but it does it all, without docking problems or stretching of the case. I'm going for practical now, and it has grown on me. Like I said, I can lay this one down and not think twice about it. No lint collector, goes into a pocket smoothly, shows no fingerprints or scrapes. Good feel and grip.

But here are the photos and apologize for turning this into an NGP thread. The cost is 2 for $29.95 free shipping, or one for $19.95 I think.

It also is flat on the side, that it can stand by itself, horizontal or vertical. This is the Transparent Mercury color.

Got this one in Walmart for $19.95. Ordered the new ones direct from Incipio.

Thanks for the pics viewfly. The Incipio case looks nice, I'll pick one up and try it.

A few more of the side and top. Laying on the side is good for movie watching or typing with a BT keyboard (usually in Vertical mode)

Comes with screen protector and cloth.

Okay. I'll tell you my story. After reading the threads about this one, I purchased it at walmart. Tried it for 20 minutes and hated the look. Threw it in the trash. A few weeks later, disappointed with another case, I picked it out of the trash can, and liked it (the other case has really bad flash problems).

This one has just grown on me since it does every thing a case should do. No excuses to be made.

Good luck. There are some molding marks, and it changes color from pure grey to slight yellow grey depending upon the light. There are solid colors and more transparent colors on line, and maybe in Walmart too.

The button response is amazing, esp compared to the Magpul, and even the naked phone.

I rarely took it off. Not sure why it stretched out like it did, just seemed like the TPU material was made to expand.

Got a new incipio NGP case. The mute hole is larger and centered for the 4S. Also the old case was slightly yellow. The new one is pure grey.

I'm looking to replace my Magpul Executive Field Case (nothing wrong with it, just looking for a change for a bit) and I'm looking for recommendations. I want something that is about the same size and thickness of the Magpul (not looking to add any additional bulk), protects the phone on all four sides and the back, and offers a lay on the table design without actually overlapping onto the front of the screen. Also, I want it to cover the volume buttons and the sleep/wake button. Basically I'm looking for something exactly like the Magpul but maybe with a different look and/or material. It needs to be dockable too.

I love how the Magpul doesn't wrap around onto the screen because it's easy to just wipe the screen on my shirt or whatever without worrying about bending back the case. Plus I hate how grease, oil. etc. tends to build up on the screen where it meets the case. Is there anything else out there that fits the bill?

Everything you described you want in a case is why I'm still using my Magpul case. I've looked around a little and found that Belkin has some cases I'm interested in but I haven't pulled the trigger on any of them yet.

Which Belkin case(s) are you referring to? I did pick up a Grip Candy but took it back because it wouldn't fit in my ihome dock AND because it overlapped onto the screen. Maybe there just isn't anything else out there that's like the Magpul, but I find that hard to believe given just how many different cases there are. I guess I could sacrifice the covered volume and sleep/wake buttons if I had to, but I'd really like to keep them covered if possible. Plus if they're not covered and the case is a little too thick, the buttons are too recessed for my liking.

IIRC it was either the Belkin 030 or 050.

Just wanted to post an update (not related to Magpul necessarily but related to my post about trying to find something similar). I bought myself an SGP Modello on Amazon (ordered yesterday, received it today - gotta love Amazon prime:D) and it definitely fits the bill. While the Modello definitely has a lay on the table design, the case does not come up over the glass at all (it actually comes right up against the side of the glass where the antenna and the glass meet). The volume and sleep/wake buttons are easy to press and give great feedback and the cutouts are great all the way around. The case is nice and thin too. I'm using it with both front and rear screen protectors too so no issues there. Fit seems to be perfect all the way around. Very nice case (I got the Soul Black).

How is the size and thickness on the SGP compared to the MagpuL? Does it slide in & out of pocket okay?

It's tough to say for sure but it looks just the tiniest bit thinner than the Magpul Executive to me (it's very close). It's definitely smaller than the Magpul in terms of height, width and depth. Very easy to get in and out of the pocket too. The closest comparison that I can think of would be the Speck Pixelskin HD - it's that same type of material but I'd say it's a bit stiffer than the Pixelskin. It even has the same kind of look with the matte and shiny combination.

This is a bit of an odd question but I've been using the executive field case now on a 4s for 10 months and now truly believe this case is superior to anything of a similar form factor (some initial deformity I had experienced disappeared a few months in and to this day, it fits like a glove even, though I fiddle with it an remove it few times day) . Anyway, my question is, does anyone who has owned both this case and a galaxy s3 have any recommendations for cases for the s3 that you can tolerate after coming from this phenomenal iPhone case?

thanks for all the advice on the magpul cases, i ordered one from amazon. The price was right at 9.95. This will help tide me over until I get an iphone 5 in october or november.

Does anyone know how to get a hold of Nick. I cant figure out how to PM him and I don't know where to find his email address.

Thanks

iPhone 5 Magpul Case

Oh and does anybody know if they're making an iPhone 5 case and if so when it will become available?
