How many using this case have had it survive a significant drop?
Trying to decide between this one, a Commuter, or LifeProof if I can find one on Craigslist.
So its been a few months since I bought a couple of these cases and thought I'd post my findings after heavy use.
First off, the Executive Field case, while looking a lot nicer than the regular Field Case, has stretched out far too much for my liking. The 4S no longer fits snug in there, if you grip the sides of the case and shake it hard enough, the phone will actually dislodge (usually from the bottom) which makes me really question the already minimal protection that it provides. I discontinued using it over a month ago in favor of the Field Case.
The regular Field Case is very rugged and durable and, thus far, hasn't stretched out. In fact, three days ago while on a construction site, I was fumbling to put the phone into the side pocket of my pants and missed the pocket entirely. The phone dropped two stories, nailed a beam while spinning on the way down, and landed on its back on top of a pile of cinder blocks. The case has two clear divots on either side of the front lip showing where it hit the beam, but the phone itself was _mostly_ fine. I say _mostly_ because the vibration feature has stopped working. I've got Square Trade so will be taking it in and may get a replacement. But I was really surprised it didn't shatter the glass front/back considering the height of the fall, the landing zone and the mid-air collision it suffered. Very durable case.
Both cases have camera openings that interfere with the flash. I don't know if this has been addressed yet but I rarely take pictures in the dark with the iPhone so its not been an issue for me. I just mention it because its obvious that they didn't address this with the version of cases I own.
Both cases have material around the docking port that interferes with a few of my dock points. My trucks' charger/iPod interface cable, the same for the cable on my Mazda CX9 and also one of my clock/radio chargers. I used an exacto knife to trim that stuff off and that resolved the problem on both cases.
Would I buy again? Yes...for the plain Field Case. The Executive Case...no thanks. It looks nicer, is svelte, but it just lost its shape far too quickly. I've even tried heating it get it to fit right again but as of yet...no dice. I think once it stretches like this, you are SOL and must throw it away. I called Magpul for a replacement but they've been very negligent and returning emails/phone calls and frankly, for what I paid, I'm not that fussed over it.
