Wireless charging will always be slow. Unless you can eliminate the extra heat. Right now you can’t. The option sucks.

I’d rather have a lighter phone. Or huge battery life with the same weight, making charging a non-issue.

From WSJ, it’s way slower.

Heat is even worse. I would not be surprised if 15W Magsafe damage more than 20W wired USB-C
Do you know any 10-15 USB C power bricks? I spent $75 bucks on a usb-c to lightning cable and too much invested, I currently use the 18watt brick from the iPad Pro and charge the Ipad with the mac.

Ugh. This makes me wonder if the 15W is rated at the power brick (before the inductive charging) rather than after.

I'd be curious if people could test this using a USB power meter.

Charging time 15W Magsafe 0-100% (12/12Pro) : 3h21
That's way worse than I expected. It takes 3.5 hours to charge the iPhone X with the below combo...

BTW, does anyone know what wattage i'm getting with those?? The page says it's a "5w" charger, but the specs below indicate it's at least 10w??

Wall charger outputs...
  • Output 3 (USB-C): 5V=3A, 9V=2A (PD), 12V=1.5A (PD)
Charging stand takes...
  • Input: DC5V/2A, 9V/1.8A
That's telling me the Charging stand can draw 10w or 16.2w is that right???

Going to wait to form a complete opinion until the tests start trickling in and we wait to see what MacRumors says about this. Also I would charge my phone to 80%...how long does that take?

Fast charging is just weird frankly. The phone lasts all day unless you have some seriously bad habits. My phone charges overnight, which is how it’s supposed to be charged. Doesn’t matter how long it takes.

What would surprise me is if any of it matters whatsoever.

That is a biiiiiig fat lie. The Qi specification states that the power stated is at the output of the coil. Therefore if Apple says the MagSafe is 15W, then the coil should output 15W. https://www.wirelesspowerconsortium...fications/download-the-qi-specifications.html
Not a lie, but I’m willing to admit I could be misinformed. Which coil is the 15w to though? Because frankly the output wattage of the MagSafe puck may be 15w, but the effective wattage the phone is receiving must still be significantly lower. Estimates I’ve read are approx 30%.
Are you saying the coil on the phone is getting the full 15w? If that is true, then why the slow charging?

There is an app for you to measure the charging rate.
We will all try tomorrow.

IMO 2021 is a bit too agressive to get rid of the port. I really think they will get rid of it more likely in 2022 if Magsafe adoption within 2 years is good.
Whats the benefit from losing ports? Fast charging, data transfer and wired headphones are pretty useful. And more energy is wasted through wireless charging than a direct charge. So what’s the ultimate goal of this. It seems like a move to USB-C would be more beneficial and uniform for the product line.

$75 on a cable? Isn’t that a little excessive?

Can you (safely) use the magsafe charger with the 29W Apple power brick (usb-c) to charge up the 12 pro ?
