I don't think I need this as I'm pretty good at managing cords, but I may get one anyway!

Kids are my main reason why I like the MagSafe. I have 7 year olds that run around like crazy and will destroy all my mobile tech..

I have had already more troubles with the cord during couple of days than during few years with MagSafe... and it was me only laying on the sofa. I definitely buy something for the power cord.

I got my 2012 15" rMBP out to charge it and update to 10.12.2 and twice during the process MagSafe came off, so I don't think I miss it too much.

Yes MagSafe was a nice feature. What anyone would argue that it wasn't is a bit difficult to understand.

Do I miss it?

Only once when my dog ran by the cord and almost sent my MB flying.

Not that many people give two whoops about Magsafe, but let's review....

1) Magsafe was great if you lived in a place where it was somehow impossible to charge your Mac without stringing the power cord across a doorway, escalator or gangway. I've got kids and such and I just don't have this issue with keeping pathways clear!

2) Magsafe didn't always charge! Let's cut the BS because I've had 7 MacBooks and Magsafe didn't always lock in correctly and sometimes I'd not pay attention and end up with a dead Mac! USB-C works perfectly, always connects.

3) Magsafe was proprietary, which meant if anything happened to my charger, I was doomed. Happened to me twice. But with USB-C I can charge off a variety of power bricks with ANY cheap USB-C cable.

4) I like that it would glow orange or green. This doesn't effect anything though.

5) I hated that about HALF the time, the MagSafe was on the wrong side! With USB-C I can always have it on the right side!

Magsafe was just one more port we no longer need. USB-C adds versatility and saves space and weight. I have external drives, cameras, 4K monitors, printers....EVERYTHING works flawlessly with USB-C. It just works!

Happy to see MagSafe go the way of the dodo? You bet!

Magsafe was loved, and much wanted by those who bought other brands.

This transparent gaslighting that it wasn't is ludicrous.

Don't try and justify a lesser feature. It just sounds foolish.

Indeed. MagSafe was a great innovation, and the current MBP implementation is a step backwards in at least two major respects: The possibility of damage due to a person or animal tripping over the wire, and the lack of visual feedback when charging or fully charged.

so my mother tripped over the wire, and my macbook pro hit the ground. I had him for 60 hours. ordered the griffin right away!

They sent an update showing the magnetic strength of the connector: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w0V_uG5D_X4

Looks good! This seemed to be the problem with the Griffin one, so let's hope it's strong enough.

To the OP: I miss MagSafe (which is why I contributed to this adaptor), and USB-C is not useful connectivity for me, as I have no USB-C peripherals.

Magsafe = one of the best invention of XXI Century
The idea was taken from deep fat fryers, which had magnetic power connectors years before MagSafe. Apple made the connector reversible, which was a trivial change, and then patented it.

I'm in the camp that thinks Magsafe was one of the best inventions since we invented fire. I'm slightly clumsy, and in the pre-Mag-Safe days, I've damaged a couple of computers by either tripping on the cord, or suddenly turning with the mac in my lap so that the cord pulled and damaged the connector. And while I'm slightly clumsy, my wife is *really* clumsy, so I'm always paranoid she'll do even more damage. Mag-Safe adapters would be high on my purchase list for a 2016 Macbook Pro.

If you're someone who never trips, forgets where the cable is, or you only use the laptop sitting at desk rather than in your lap, you have the luxury of not giving two whoops about Magsafe going bye-bye. However, there is a *large* tribe of users like myself who think it's excellent and saves us damage to the computer. The old Mag-Safe cords may wear out, but replacing those is cheaper than replacing a damaged plug-in on the $2,000 computer.

I’m very careful with my computer and have never needed MagSafe, but I’m still glad it’s there.

I can’t understand why Apple couldn’t have integrated a new form of MagSafe into the usb-c power cable itself, that way it wouldn’t matter which port you plugged the cable into. The original Xbox had a controller with a breakaway cable for this purpose, although the connection wasn’t magnetic.

Yesterday my wife droped her MacBook Pro 2015, good that nothing happened.
MagSafe didn't help here, because it got pulled by the EarPods.

Somebody ringed the doorbell, she stood up and had the EarPods still in her ears, POW.
So MagSafe alone won't help your MacBook to survive, there are many risks, better take care.
