My iPad Pro came with an 18W charger. I suspect that probably also works fine. I think the only reason Apple don’t mention the 18W charger is that it’s no longer available and has been replaced by the 20W charger. If the 18W charger does in fact work then Apple should be more clear about that so those who already have an 18W charger don’t necessarily have to buy the new 20W one.

They WANT you to buy the new one. Magsafe Charger-gate

after the phone is done charging, it it possible to separate the magsafe charger from the phone using just one hand?

thanks!

Wow, online order plus next day curbside pickup was way better than waiting until November. Glad to have it for my Friday package

For those asking about diameter, according to the specs the magnet ring is 54.1 mm (~2.1 inches), so the charger is probably that size, or possibly a tiny bit larger.

Just had a chat with Apple support, they confirmed 18w charger will work with 15w MagSafe charging.
Yeah it works, but will it work to the same efficiency ie. 15w?

Interesting to see tests to compare the charge times between the 18w & new 20w.

The new MagSafe Charger and 20W USB-C Power Adapters arrived early. MagSafe requires minimum 20W

Edited to add: Whoa, it weakly sticks to my iPhone 11 Pro’s back right where the charging coil is. I didn’t expect that
What do you mean “weakly”? Does it not stick as convincingly as you expected??

I had to goto the Apple store today to return a solo loop and I picked up a MagSafe charger as well. I’m ultimate going to wait for the Duo Charger but I primarily bought the puck to try this. (See photo.)

Im using an Apple 18w charger and in this use case it seems to work fine. The puck isn’t that heavy but it does stay on the table. I was worried it would be so light it would pull it down the back.

I did drop my 12 Pro on it for a moment and it did seem to charge though I didn’t wait to see if the percent went up. I’d imagine 18W is fine if you use it in “Qi mode.” My guess is 20 watts is only required for MagSafe charging.
Looks neat, but it won’t look neat with 2 or 3 of them next to each other, for each device 😒

Makes me want to wait until a dual model is released (for iPhone/AirPods).

No reason to expect it would stick to an 11 like it will the 12s.

So my first impression with one in hand is that it's wider than I would prefer (I'm sure it had to be this wide) but definitely thinner than I expected. I think they should have made the attached cable longer.

Yes it is possible to use just one hand. I also tested pulling the case and it worked.

when you connect the 20-watt Apple charger directly to your current iPhone, does the phone heat up a lot during charging? :)

when I charge my 2-week-old iPhone XS Max using the tiny 5-watt included charger, the back of the phone is around 76 degrees, measured with a contactless thermometer. (room temperature 75)

I got the Apple 18-watt charger and the heated up the XS Max dramatically... sometimes as much as 103 degres...

I will be returning the 18-watt charger as soon as the 20-watt one arrives. Will try again when the iPhone 12 Pro is picked up next week.

Thanks!

Seeing the MagSafe charger makes me wish I ordered the wallet now, but the 5-6 wait is so long 😂

I'm sure there will be plenty of third party wallets that may even be nicer, so don't feel bad.

Imagine the amount of MagSafe products that are all about to come to the market. I just found this rip off wallet on amazon for £20 it’s even the exact same colours 😂
