So, you guys believe that they are just scratches and the like?

I personally don't care what it looks like, but should I just try to remove it to make sure that that they are scuff marks? i.e. Would burn marks not be able to be removed by simply wiping it down? Otherwise I just plan on leaving them on, I just wanted to make sure that it's not burning or anything, hence my post.

Think about it. If it were burn marks, what was burnt? Theres nothing that could melt or burn. the aluminum isn't melted (and that'd be impressive if it was), so its pretty much impossible to be burn marks.

If it is burn marks, they will have left a weird texture where they burned. If the edge feels normal besides the marks, its not a burn.

Makes sense, but there isn't much of a way that I can get my finger in there and determine the texture of the marks inside, so I'll just assume that they are scratches as well.

It's probably because of the force that it gets pulled in with sometimes, it's quite loud.

Thank you to everyone for your replies.

Just don't go looking in the magsafe, thats my 2 cents.

You mean inside of the port?

I don't plan on it, if anything I'll just try to wipe the side of the port but I plan on leaving it there, especially since it will most likely happen again if it's due to scratches or friction.

Looks fine to me. I also think they're scratches. Here's what burned looks like:

For the story that goes with that pic:

TUAW.com Reader's unibody MacBook Pro catches fire!

Ouch, I guess I look like a fool now with that picture, huh? I was just trying to be cautious after all.

Anyways that certainly looks like a burn. ^^; I will take a look at the article as well. Thanks for the post and your reassurance.
