Probably right. You could double-side tape it down to a surface. I'm also waiting until the Belkin 2-in-1 is released as I don't need the Apple Watch charger.

I’ll be curious to see if the Belkin 2-1 can be used with one hand. The base will be smaller and I’m not so sure.

I really doubt you’ll be able to remove your iPhone without holding down the base with your other hand. That’s why I like my Belkin 3-1 so much in part.

easy solution are those metal plates with adhesive you can stick to the bottom and have the other surface magnetic. Its how I use my stand. Or just use two sided tape or velcro.

The Belkin stand weighs 1lb 1.4oz or 493g

The Elago weighs 9.1 oz or 257g

I suspect the Elago is far too light.

I found the Belkin feels a little light too. With the Belkin you could slightly lift the stand if you don't take the phone off at an angle (i.e lift one side first). So I think the ideal weight would be about 500g. The Belkin is close to ideal but even a little short. Anything lighter than the Belkin won't cut it.

I think you are right. Also some of these stands are hollow at the bottom so you can tape a weight inside.

I got the Elago stand from Amazon. It is weighted. Not weighted enough, but it is pretty good. If you slide the phone off or tilt it off you can get it off without lifting the stand. But you can also lift the stand if you want.

This is one of those "You're holding it wrong." situations. Yes, if you try to pull a 12 series phone right off, it'll lift the stand. You're supposed to pull the phone at an angle (I usually pull it from the bottom end first) to kind of "peel" it off a Magsafe charger.

Has anyone come across a stand that does not charge? I have no need to charge my phone throughout the day but would love a desk stand with just the magnets in it. I have the Moft wallet on it already and it does the trick, but want something with a bit more height

you can use any really. I use a power supply outlet with a on off button on it and turn it off when I don't want it to charge. its very east with a switch.

Bonus, it DOES play the little magsafe animation when attaching the phone. This little unit also comes with a little wireless pad in the base to charge your airpods. In the box is also a 30w USB-C PD charger. I bought it to use at my home-office desk while working where I really don't need the 15W max power, but DO want the instant positioning of the magnets. Keeps my phone visible to me (for notification) and charging slowly during the day. This unit would also make a great nightstand unit. I do wish they made a version with a little watch charger as well.

I also hated how they would lift up. This solved the problem. The best part is it doesn’t leave behind sticky residue. Pull it up and it’s fine.

with all adhesive you want to heat the surface it’s sticking to, heat the target. Press and hold tightly for 60 seconds and then let it bond for a few hours before you put a load on it.

I was too impatient and ended up making my own stand before a lot were on the market. Used the double side stuff to hold it down. Works like a dream

Yeah, but I don't want to just have a €49 charger sitting there doing nothing. I know you can get the magnets on Ali Express and the likes, would be nice to have a stand that doesn't charge.

I made similar stuff by modding an aliexpress car holder
Its cable removable, unscrew the ball fixation and remove front cover with suction pad (in order to remove one screw stuck in between)
I didnt need to mod it into a dock but its feasible
Just buy another decent dock and put nano tape
You can make one with removable cable magsafe dock for cheap (under €30)

It's one of those "You're holding it wrong." scenarios.

You're not supposed to pull the phone straight off the magsafe puck. You're supposed to lift one end of the phone off first. I pull the bottom end of the phone up first and the rest of the phone comes off easily.
