It's one of those "You're holding it wrong." scenarios.

You're not supposed to pull the phone straight off the magsafe puck. You're supposed to lift one end of the phone off first. I pull the bottom end of the phone up first and the rest of the phone comes off easily.
yeah true but sometimes when we're in a hurry we aint got time to think about that.so before it happens ill be taping the stand itself.to avoid future issues.sort of...

Stands like the Belkin MagSafe 3-1 are always going to be your best option because the extra weight will allow you to remove your iPhone without lifting the base itself. I don't think using double sided tape is an elegant solution. And having to remove your iPhone in a specific manner is always a concession.

I suspect more stands moving forward will focus on heavy bases to combat this. Right now the market is infested with cheap solutions that require extra effort to use properly.

This is one of those "You're holding it wrong." situations. Yes, if you try to pull a 12 series phone right off, it'll lift the stand. You're supposed to pull the phone at an angle (I usually pull it from the bottom end first) to kind of "peel" it off a Magsafe charger.
You should be able to remove your iPhone as you please without having to compromise.

🤷‍♂️

I don't have to compromise anything. Once I understood how to get the phone off without lifting the whole stand, I didn't even need to think about it again. I just automatically remove it that way now.

People "complain" about the littlest things.

No, they really don't.

Having to remove your device in a specific manner is simply a concession. If it doesn't bother you, that's great. However in general most people are going to want to be able to remove their iPhone from a mount without having to think twice.

It's not a concession. Again, I figured out how to remove it without lifting the entire stand with the phone and now I just automatically remove the phone that way without even thinking about it. 🤷‍♂️

Again, that's great if that works for you. Most people don't want to have to remove something a specific way in order to get the results they desire. Most consumers will just want to place and remove an iPhone in the manner they desire when they please.

I'm in the process of formulating what I would like to see in terms of a wireless charger for my upcoming iPhone 12. Here's the list so far:

Form factor should be a stand for the desktop with a vertically angled tray for the phone. Sleek and not taking up too much space. For example, similar to the Anker PowerWave 7.5 W Qi charger in appearance.

Charger designed for PHONE ONLY. No need to charge watches, earphones, etc.

Have a switch on the charger to select between two power levels: 15W for fast charge and 5W for overnight charging.

First to provide all this will probably get my business !

I’m really struggling to understand why so many people are having issues with the stand lifting when you take the iPhone off it.

It doesn’t mater how light the stand is, you simply just lift the iPhone from the bottom and ‘peel’ it off, or just give it a little twist.

If Steve was here he would say ‘you’re lifting it wrong’. Only this time he would be right 😂.

when has any manufacturer ever made a switchable power source? I don't think ever but I could be wrong. Asking a lot for something. Better off making your own. Not sure how you would do switchable power supplies unless it was a toggle from a power strip somehow. You would need two different usb-c charging bricks and be able to switch between them.

cant really be possible with magnets. Magnets don't have an on off switch you can just turn off when you want to grab the phone. So there will be compromises for something like this. Magnets need to be separated somehow and changing the way you pull apart magnets is how you do it. Stick the stand to the desk is basically needed if you don't want to learn a different way to take the phone off the stand.

You just need a heavy base. My Belkin MagSafe 3-1 doesn't shift when I remove my iPhone. All these other 2-1's are lightweight and hence why they can't be used properly without sticking the base down using some tape or (potentially) maneuvering the iPhone in some fashion to remove it.

I’d like to see a stand like Nomad’s Nase Station Stand

But with a MagSafe magnet set up to lock it in position And give it 15w charging. I’m using this stand now but if I don’t pay attention when putting Phone on it then it may not charge. MagSafe would solve that.

Yea weight will do that. I used magnets under mine to Hold it down. It’s a lightweight aluminum one. Doesn’t move from the spot I have it. I had to put a thin metal plate on the base because aluminum doesn’t magnetize.

There are some vertical stands/docks on Aliexpress but you need original Magsafe charger

Its foldable! Great for the mobility/travel

Me... i had to double tape my stand onto my table because its just a cheap metal thingy. And i do agree with you its annoying if a certain motion is needed to remove the phone. Not good when in a hurry.

I am looking for something without a wire, just a magsafe stand with the ability to change the height and good material.
Spent several hours of searching through a bunch of Chinese trash on an Amazon, planting very few good magsafe accessories so far.

Did you mean without cable charging?
Official Magsafe charger comes with wired cable
You can make most likely a DIY stand:
  • There are some adjustable dock/stands (typically these ones for iPad/iphone without anything special, just simple dock/stand)
  • Buy a Magsafe car charger and disassembly the ball mount, these ones are removable cable
  • Stick Magsafe charger into dock with 3M tape or nano tape or whatever with some glue ability

This dock has an adjustable height (only 2 position)

This Magsafe car charger has strong magnet which you could easily dismount ball fixation

Its foldable dock, so you can have the best all-in-one^^

- Mobility (foldable)
- Adjustable height
- Removable cable of Magsafe
