Yep I echo your sentiment there. I’m in London and yet to find a place where I can’t use either contactless or Apple Pay. In fact I don’t even carry a wallet or cards at all since Apple Pay was launched in the UK.

I only carry 2 cards when I’m travelling abroad. I use Curve card for all transactions generally because I have all my other cards to hand via Curve and I keep the physical Monzo card just in case I lose the Curve card. Monzo is used as my main travel expenses card which is also available via Curve. AND both support Apple Pay so mostly even when I’m abroad I use either contactless or Apple Pay if that’s available.

The pandemic has just rapidly made it more convenient because some reluctant businesses that didn’t have contactless have now implemented it as well. With me it’s as simple as - if you don’t have either Apple Pay or contactless then you’re not getting my business. Oh, and I also mostly use the watch instead of the phone. Super convenient.

It’s the same here in Wales, even my corner shop accepts Apple Pay and contactless now and the pandemic has forced most businesses to progress. I think the only time I use a physical credit card is when buying fuel but that’s once every 2-3 weeks now as I’m not driving to work as often. It feels like this sort of accessory is a few years too late but maybe that’s just me. No issues though for those who have the need

Yep same. I didn’t even have a second thought of buying such accessories. I know a lot of places in the US still don’t use chip and pin, so maybe there’s a market there. Also some south eastern/ African countries may have similar setup but Apple products are too expensive for these countries anyway ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so not sure how big of a market it is for such accessories. I guess there must be enough people still wanting / using such things for Apple to do something about it.

America is quite a bit behind Europe in terms of banking and yes I remember being shocked chip and pin wasn’t used widely at a point where we’d been using it for years. You’re right there is obviously a market for these as can be seen here, it maybe depends on the country and person I suppose. The minimal accessories the better for me.

Not to high Jack but just a quick question. I’m totally stupid and had no idea they had magnet phone cases although it makes total sense....lol. Are these cases strong enough to keep your phone secure on a car magnet mount while driving??

Yes I live in the United States and most stores take Apple Pay however most restaurants especially smaller ones don’t take it yet and we still have to carry our drivers license to purchase alcohol and while we drive as they do not have a digital option in my state yet forcing use to have to carry at least two cards. Hence why I tried out the wallet.
If we had all digital that would be so much nicer!

I keep 3 cards with me. My license, medical insurance card, and one credit card. I use ApplePay everywhere its offered but some of the main places I shop still dont offer it so I need a card. I have carried a slim wallet with the 3 cards in the same pocket as the phone for several years. Not a bad solution but I thought I would give the Apple Wallet a shot since its just as thin, leather, and would stay with the phone versus moving around in the pocket. It does not disappoint. The only time I remove the wallet is charging at night. I flip the wallet off into my pocket as I remove the phone then place the phone in the charger. My car mount is made with a space behind where it holds the phone that allows room for the wallet. I could wireless charge in the car but rarely need to unless I am taking a long trip and need navigation. In those times I have a short lightning cable that i have used for many generations of phones prior. It’s not used often but works fine when it is. Bottom line, the wallet works well for me since its basically the same as what I have been doing for a while only now more secure in the pocket. I am using a black Apple silicon case with the black wallet at the moment. I do want to try the wallet with a thinner carbon fiber case but it has not come in the mail yet.

This is exactly my same situation. I’ve been using slim phone type wallets for years and the convenience of being able to slip the wallet on and off to have your phone stay slim at home or when you need it or have it attached is why I wanted to try it. I have a phone mount in my car as well just a normal air vent mount as in my state and county if you hold your phone in your hand even for navigation you get ticketed. So yes even though I wish I didn’t need a wallet at all this one works perfectly for my use case. I do however want to try the magnetic mount Belkin makes once it includes charging built in.

If it works for you then that’s great I would say. I carry a slim wallet in my back pocket sometimes but I haven’t used cash since March as most shops are now set up for contactless with the pandemic, although most were beforehand. I don’t even use my iPhone usually for Apple Pay as the watch is more convenient. I guess a MagSafe card holder is just not aimed at people like me. I’ve got a super slim Caudabe Sheath case on my iPhone too so the camera is well protected when placed on tables. No offence meant, I just see this as one of the more niche accessories Apple have released.
Yes i use my Apple watch for most payments and texts and phone calls. The phone hardly ever comes out of my pocket. The wallet holds my drivers licence but if in the UK we had digital drivers licences then yes i think the wallet would become redundant

They are only starting to test digital license in the states. I read once they have them, it will only be used for showing the police for a while. They will have the ability to scan the code that goes with the digital license. In stores and other places where you need to prove your age, you will still need the plastic license. So, we are going to be many years still before we have digital license.

I quite often don’t have my drivers license on me to be honest as it’s not a legal requirement to carry a drivers license when driving, although it is in other countries I believe.

Update log: +24 hrs:

iPhone 12 Mini 256gb white, saddle brown wallet- No case, feels great. Gives added grip, and cradles in the palm of the hand excellent. Patina will be magnificent. Lay on table feels brilliant keeping the camera from contact and extra area on the sides to pick up. Take wallet off and feel the phone’s true slimness. Put it back on and get the comfort/grip. This wallet was made for the iPhone 12 Mini caseless no doubt. This set up is !

Edit: Using the wallet as a “phone coaster” on the table is working out brilliant!

That’s exactly it, it’s a super niche product. Buying it and trying to make it suit isn’t the way to go, it’s for those who immediately see how it fits for them. I’m one such person.

I’ve carried a traditional wallet for years, with 10 cards of which I use 2. Totally pointless. Now, I’ve got those cards in the Apple Wallet (Monzo + credit card for the times I’m spending over the contactless limit) plus my drivers license. Fits my needs perfectly. Everything else is in the digital Apple Wallet. Just wish the DVLA would get on and support a digital drivers license!

And actually I find I don’t attach it to the phone that much. It’s nice as a stand-alone slim wallet (ideal for skinny jeans) but with the added bonus that it attaches to the phone should I need/want.

I’m as a big an Apple fan as the next person but buying this if someone ‘needs’ to carry more than it holds is a complete waste of time. No doubt.

You’re completely right. It’s a marmite sort of product where you either see a need or you don’t. I’ve read these threads trying to see if it’s something I didn’t realise I was missing, but haven’t been convinced. I think it’ll be years before drivers licenses are digital to be honest.

I’m curious to know what states are doing these. I haven’t heard anything about California doing anything yet.

Louisiana I think is in the lead at the moment, they have one that is only good in state and only as a drivers license. No ID use outside of showing officers so far as I know. The states working on it started in 2015 but nothing has moved very far forward. I only know what I find in Google searches when it comes to mind.

First hand I can say I have one but still carry my license around anyway. It can get you into bars as far as proof of age, but Ive not yet used it as my primary source of ID. Airports and casinos usually take my license to actually run it through a scanner.

The issue is that still a lot of places dont take apple pay. I haven’t even considered asking bars if they do, but Im looking forward to trying it out in the coming weeks to see if I can move completely walletless.

But Ive been considering picking up one of these wallets since I do a lot of walking, and carrying around 2 phones, airpods, keys, and wallet makes my pockets a bit bulky

I just received my “California Poppy” Apple wallet, I call it “Fighting Illini Orange.” (Photo below on my the Clear Apple case) and put it on my iPhone 12 Pro MaX. I was a little worried about how it would work, as I bought a 3rd party wallet off of Amazon first because I could have it in 3 days rather than the 3 week wait for Apple’s. The magnet on it was very weak and I didn’t use it at all for fear of losing it.

The Apple Wallet, however, snapped right into place and has, what I believe, is enough magnetic hold to keep the wallet securely in place. I do not expect it to be held permanently in place by any means, but I carry my iPhone mainly in jacket pockets, and never in pants pockets, so I think it will work just fine.

One problem I have seen with it is getting the card out of the wallet. I only carry one card in it and that is my Apple credit card. This is partly for security purposes. If the wallet or card is lost/stolen, it is of no value to anyone as there is no numbers on it, and I can simply call Apple and get another one issued. However, even with just this one card in the wallet I have difficulty getting it out. It seems that I have to moisten my thumb/finger to be able to move the card up. Under normal circumstances, people see you do this and think EWW does he want me to handle that now? In these days of COVID-19, this definitely not a proper thing to do. Has any one found a way to solve this problem?

I wish that Apple had come out with the MagSafe idea and this wallet sooner as carrying my Apple Credit Card in my normal leather wallet has caused it to become very tired and worn looking.

Here’s the promised photo of the wallet on my iphone 12 Pro Max.

Do you get the wallet attached animation when you put the wallet in the clear case?

I had the same problem at first. After a few days it kinda "loosens" and becomes easier. What I also found helps is to not push the card all the way down. The way you have it in the pic is how I have my cards.the top of the card lined against the top of the wallet..but if I were to push them all the way down to the very bottom it became harder to push out. That is what I noticed for me.

TLDR: try it for a few days. It should loosen up and get easier. At least it did for me.
