Time for you to start looking for a new laptop vendor then. I predict Apple dropping MagSafe from all MacBooks in the next 2-3 years, in favor of "single cable" charging - USB-C on ultraportables or TB3 on high-end models.
In that case I would probably switch to an iPad - mac mini combo and stop buying macbooks.

But that's exactly the point. IPad doesn't come with MagSafe either, because you hardly ever use it while plugged into the wall. Mini is stationed on a desk, where there is no risk of "tripping over the cord".

These are precisely the reasons why MagSafe isn't needed on modern laptops.

But that is not how I use my macbook. I don't stay in the same place every night. I do charge and I do trip over cords. I actually have that problem with my iPad too, but not as bad since I don't use it the same way.

Remind me again what the point was to migrate from Magsafe to Magsafe 2? Wasn't Magsafe 2 supposed to be future-proof?

Magsafe 2 was made because the original Magsafe connector was too thick for their new retina MacBook Pros, so they needed to make a thinner one. That is the only difference.

Exactly. Why didn't the wizards at Cupertino come up with MagSafe 3 that is even thinner and would fit within the svelte new Macbook?

For the same reasons they didn't come with "thinner MagSafe 3" for iPad. It's not needed. rMB is not indented to be used while plugged into a wall charger.

That is complete nonsense. Any Mac notebook, including the new MacBook, can be used either on battery power or plugged in.

Of course it CAN be used while plugged in, just like iPad can be used while plugged in as well. But with all day-day battery life - neither NEEDS to be plugged in. That's how Apple sees things going forward, and that's why they are dropping MagSafe.

Post a link to Apple's site where they state that's their reason. Otherwise, you're just guessing.

Because there's no space for it. Unless you'd want to sacrifice the headphone port.

Seriously? OK:

You see where it says "the new MacBook is designed for our wireless world.. without being tied down"? Pretty sure this doesn't mean "being tethered to the wall AC outlet".

That says absolutely nothing about why they went from the MagSafe to the USB-C connector.

No, it says absolutely everything.

And they didn't go "from MagSafe to USB-C" connector. They kept a single USB connector and dropped MagSafe.

No, they didn't keep any USB connector. They dropped all connectors, including MagSafe, and replaced them with a new USB-C connector. They couldn't keep the USB-C connector, since no Apple model ever had one before. The point is, you have not proven your claim to know why Apple dropped the MagSafe adapter.

Yes. They went from a dedicated power port plus data ports to a single port which handles power and data. They won't reverse this to add an additional port, as the current case has no room to do so. And MagSafe can't handle power and data without it becoming a huge, unwieldy, 8-10 pinned magnetic block which would also not fit in the current case.
This is the way forward for non-power-user laptops. Single-port connection, ultra portable, long battery, predominantly wireless.
Get used to it, or get the pro-lineup.

Actually, I don't have to prove anything to you. Apple's motivations for dropping MagSafe in rMB are clear to anyone who listens to their keynotes or marketing materials. But feel to believe whatever you want to believe - makes no difference to me.

Yep. Except I'll bet that even the Pro lineup will be dropping MagSafe over time, when Apple redesigns MacBook Pro cases. USB can supply up to 100W via PowerDelivery - current MBP requires 85W.
