Major Retailers that Support NFC Payments

I found an ExxonMobil with NFC and chip support: http://imgur.com/0ZYSk3i they must be testing it as other locations had NFC but no chip yet. That picture is Gilbarco Passport with Verifone MX915 which is odd as most use iSC250's. Also this is rare for Mobil as most do not support NFC. Also Ross Dress For Less supports NFC at locations with chip support but its only locations with chip. I used MC ctls at Tim Horton and it worked fine and even says Tap on the receipt so it must work at some locations.

Tap has never worked for me at Tim's... however, every time I have attempted it, it's been with a VISA card, not a MasterCard. Perhaps it's half-baked?

This is why I liked it when USAA used MasterCard instead of VISA...

Starbucks uses the same pinpads VX820's through Chase Payment Tech(Although branded Starbucks) and it worked perfectly pre-EMV and even after EMV was enabled it still works great. Makes no sense that the same pinpads, same network yet Visa ctls doesn't work at Tim Horton's while it has always worked at Starbucks..

Yep - I've used the Starbucks ones on card reloads a few times (my card has had some special promotions where I'd get cash back for Starbucks in-person transactions, so I did the max in a reload for the card instead). No issues at all and the staff seem to know what they're doing.

Well I recently tried my Visa Debit card via my phone at Macy's and it worked perfectly fine each time, but now they force your debit pin on you and Macy's lists EMV Contactless(Y), ARQC and AID info on the receipt and it doesn't use the US Debit AID it lists the Visa Debit credit AID even though it forces pin on you. So they must have fixed it at Macy's then either derp'd(or maybe on purpose) and made it force pin instead of signature. Maybe a Visa credit card via mobile pay would not ask for a pin. Also MasterCard only runs as MSD(8) at Macy's and I bet Discover does the same thing which is probably why it still worked while Visa EMV Contactless caused it to crash.

If they're ignoring the CVM list like that, then they're probably out of compliance with network policies.
 
Added Round Table Pizza and Red Ribbon Bakeshop to the wiki. Unfortunately, you still have to sign when using AP, even though it looks like they could both use CDCVM from the stuff on the receipt.
 
Has anybody been having grief with Apple Pay at Rite Aid? It hasn't been working in my town for months.

I'll tap my iPhone, choose debit, enter my pin, decline cash back, and it'll come back declined.

So I tap again, this time choose credit... and the PIN pad makes this super-irritating "beep beep beep!" and says "please insert your card!" - forcing me to dig out my wallet, get my card, and dip it.


On the other hand, Walgreens is an absolute treat. I tap my iPhone, "Visa contactless" pops up in the lower left corner, and that's it. No credit/debit selection, no PIN, no signature, no cash back, I just tap and the receipt prints -- exactly how Apple Pay is *supposed* to work.
 
By the way, it seems that Meijer finally fixed the issue with Discover not working in stores (it broke a few months ago). About two weeks ago, MasterCard with ApplePay stopped working for me there at one location only and then the next week, it was fine (slightly different displays on the terminal screens) and a friend of mine retried Discover and it seems to be working again...software update?

I used Apple Pay at Rite-Aid recently and it worked fine. I wasn't trying to use a debit card, though.
 
Some Sizzler locations (can't say for certain that all of them do) have EMV + NFC now. Smart & Final too.

Meanwhile, In-N-Out now has customer facing iPP350s (except at the drive through) but only EMV is enabled on those.

I've been having trouble at Macdonalds recently - they upgraded at least software (screen looks different and different color) and since then, at several different locations, i get card rejected message every time.

Today at a different place it was accepted but then I was asked to sign using a debt card - after putting in PIN.

Maybe my bank?

That explains it. Made a Macy's run the other day, with a relative's Visa Debit card loaded into Apple Pay on my iPhone (with their permission, of course). I asked to just use their card via Apple Pay, as it was easier than them driving 10 miles from their rural home to a city with an ATM.

I was, of course, irritated that Macy's was forcing a PIN. I ended up having to eat the bill on my own with my Chase debit card, as I didn't know their PIN and they didn't want to give it out.

I couldn't run the debit card as a credit, either. Normally, I believe that it makes zero sense to run a debit card on the credit processing network, but in a case like this, it would've been helpful. 😀

Macy's just needs to get onboard with CDCVM already.
 
Someone on another forum mentioned that they were able to use a mobile wallet at a Safeway in the Bay Area. The terminal didn't mention anything on the screen but it apparently went through as NFC. Is that the case for anyone else?

I'd like to know your reasoning behind this. Running a debit card as debit often affords no protection or other benefits for the consumer (extended warranty, travel insurance, chargeback, etc.). Those benefits only come with processing the payment through listed credit network on the card.

I thought a lot of those benefits were only on credit cards anyway? About the only thing I can think of that's on debit cards too is the ability to file a chargeback.

I'm going to assume you are referring to running a debit as a credit.

Only reason I wished I could've done it at Macy's was because it wasn't my card and I didn't know the PIN, but I had permission from the owner to use the card. Macy's forces you to run a debit as a debit, and I agree with this. I see zero reason to run a debit as a credit, except for that situation I was in. But, in reality, it should be blocked. What if that person didn't know I had their card? I could just charge it up all day, whereas if debit is forced to run as debit, and you don't know the PIN, you're SOL.

Correct, those benefits are only for actual credit cards. Running debit as credit affords no extra benefits. The only reason we even have the option to run a debit card as a credit card in America is because the FTC deemed that it needed to happen for "consumer choice" and "competition".

Yeah, running my card thru VISA's tubes instead of PULSE or STAR's tubes, which makes literally zero difference to me, is such a competitive advantage to me... 🙄

That is not true; those benefits are not only for actual credit cards. I have used both extended warranty and travel reimbursement benefits on a debit card. Unless you are talking about some other benefits...

VISA still provides better Zero liability protection and travel insurance/warranty through debit cards if you route them through Visa vs the debit networks.

Also the store pays credit card rates vs debit card rates which is why Visa prefers it, but meh.

Must be my banks then, I have never seen those benefits on a debit card.
 
I cannot add to the wiki just yet, but I noticed that contactless is working at some Taco Bell locations. I used it at one in Utah recently no problem.
