Hi All.

'Upgraded' to El-Cap but can't figure out how to make the address bar in safari 9.1 longer.
Someone else I'm sure has dealt with this, but could't find it.

thanks

wish I knew that too - pisses me off to have so much waste space and a tiny address bar.... but I'm afraid this is it, there's no switches or triggers to change it back to how it behaves in Mavericks' Safari

I use Safari Stand (http://hetima.com/safaristand/). It's a hassle to install and for many it's not worth the bother, but I like it. The main reason I use it is to have favicons on my tabs and also to fix the tab width. Extending the size of the address bar is a bonus.

Basically, you need to install SIMBL (not EasySimbl) working around SIP (https://github.com/norio-nomura/EasySIMBL/issues/26).

Wicked! I used it back in 10.4 / 10.5 days... Will certainly check it out!

EDIT: actually, would you mind pointing to that setting please? I downloaded SS for Safari 9 on Mavericks but all I can see is a width of a tab, but no resize options for address bar

You need to update to the latest version (check my screenshot) although if you're still on Mavericks then you enjoy living in the past and the latest version may not work ;) Don't worry, once you have SIMBL running then updating SS is easy.

Also, as you already have SIMBL installed I recommend https://sweetpproductions.com/safaricookies/ as another great tool.

great! do you run it on OS X 10.10 or 10.11?

10.11. Specifically, 10.11.5 beta but it's worked throughout.

how did you manage SIMBL to work on 10.11? After SIMBL reading info on Github I was under the impression that it doesn't work on 10.11 even after disabling SIP

It works - instructions in the github link I gave above, about half way down the thread. Look for the contribution:

"norio-nomura commented on Jun 30, 2015"

or just click on the date above as I seem to have cleverly pasted a link without realising :)

Thanks for the help, appreciate it! This 'feature' was driving me nuts, it works like a charm now... few more days and I'll be moving to EC fully :)

Unfortunately logic did not prevail when Yosemite was introduced.

Consider feedback to Apple, if you have not already done so.

sending feedback is like throwing stuff into a black hole... but I'll do so again

previous user had it working on 10.11.5 beta though:/

EDIT: must be El Cap thing though as SS still loads on 10.9.5.... damn

EDIT 2: blasted SIP protection got reactivated during last update, disabled it again and we're back in business!:))) Bloody hell, this deserves a proper email to someone in Cuppertino, not just a plain feedback :))))

I have SIP enabled and Safari Stand is working for me. I don't remember if I had to reinstall SIMBL after the first 10.11.5 beta though (but once SIMBL is installed and Safari Stand working, you can re-enable SIP if you wish).
