Today is my Mom's Birthday and my sister and I got her an Apple gift card so she can get an iPad. This made the PERFECT gift box!
Thanks so much for posting this.

i used the box as a joke to friends, family & co-workers and never thought of using as a gift box. that is an awesome idea.

HAndwriting recognition

I wrote directly on the screen of this iPad, and guess what! I could read it. The technology of this new "paper" is amazing. I'm getting out some watercolor to see if it has a paint program.

I love this thread because it gives me a chance to add all of the mean spirited whiny know-it-all bitches into IGNORE status all at one time so I don't have to read their BS in future threads. Thanks guys and GOODBYE.

EDIT: Added 19 of them so far. Whee!!

I think we can now predict who looks forward to finding the weekend colour comics in their newspapers, and who always thought they were a waste of valuable space that could have been productively filled with more news about murder, mayhem and muggings.

That is actually the part that I miss most about reading the new online now ... I always looked forward to the weekend comics. Online versions don't have the same experience.

Thanks to Arn for posting this. The world needs more silliness :)

This is one of the saddest things i've seen on the internet in a long time.

If you believe that clearly you haven't seem much of the Internet recently. At any rate the Paper iPad is amusing at best, forgettable at worst. Certainly not worth getting one's rankles up. Cheers.

I stopped reading the responses a few pages in because it's really quite sad that anyone would get upset about this, so forgive me if the following has already been mentioned.

I was in Japan when the Aluminum PowerBook was first announced. Nearly every computer store in Akihabara had a printed out cardboard scale-model mock-up of it on display. It actually was quite handy for getting a sense of the scale of it.

Help! Can't figure out how to make iPod...

Guys, no matter what print settings I've tried, I can't make the back and the front images come out the same size (or real size for that matter.) I'm using a Macbook Pro and Preview. I've tried 100% scale and every other type of scaling I can think of, but they just come out all different sizes.

How on a Mac can you force it to print out an image at actual size?

Thanks,
- Jeff

P.S. A big time boo to all the readers who didn't think this was Mac Rumor worthy. For those of us who desperately read iPad rumors the past year, getting a chance to own a fake one is a dream come true.

Will all the people without a sense of humour at the weekend - please leave the building.

If you are thinking about buying a real one - why not print it out and make it?

Might be a bit of fun and if you weigh it down to 1.5kg you get a feel for the heft - and see if it fits in your favourite bag.

And if you think this is frivolous, you probably regard computers as nothing more than useful tools.
Just remember society will probably consider you in a similar way.

I've been watching this thread since it was first posted and wow, this really has split the board hasn't it? Who could imagine that such a light hearted post could cause so many people to post so many disparaging comments.

I'm a long term lurker but felt the need to show a bit of support to arn and MacRumors and say, although I'm really waiting for news on the new MacBook Pro, posts like this give us something fun to click on and a new post is always better than no post at all.

Yea for MacRumors!

Yeah! I feel the need to add nothing to this discussion as well :)

Take the gun away from my head and stop forcing me to read everything!

oh... what? there is no gun?

damn... so who is making me read all the crap?? I must blame someone for all the bad things in my life...

With paper, the possibilities are endless!

It's from paper, so they could have just put a Cydia shortcut on it, or Google Voice. Or Cycorder. I mean, putting on a camera would have not hurt anybody. :(

iPad Server

Well, i just work on it a little more to turn my macmini server into iPad like desktop.

Its very nice to work on it and its incredible.. my icons never be so organized like now.. specially when i'm on screen sharing !

Apple, what are you doing with my brain  ???

What i did:
1. I just put the iPad wallpaper ( google it to find ).
2. Set my screen resolution to 1024x768 and turn it 90˚ angle at monitor preferences.
3. Add spaces to my dock with the terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.dock persistent-apps -array-add '{"tile-type"="spacer-tile";}'

* You can add as many you want and to take it off the dock, just drag it off.
** dont forget to reload the dock in terminal: killall Dock

Why/how would it be useful for developers to have a paper copy of the iPad? Enlighten me, please.

I assume 'arn' meant it would be good for spacial relations...getting the 'feel' for your app development. How you would hold it, button placement that is conducive to orientation, etc... I'm speculating.

I'm amazed you can write that after reading back through this thread:

"Slow news day, huh?"
"This is seriously on page 1?"
"I expect this from Endgadget, not MacRumors"

I understand you run this website, 'Arn'? Don't be so arrogant and actually listen to the people who actually use your site. Personally I come here for news, not crap like this. I've followed MR for a good few years now and it's becoming seriously tired (in appearance and content) and is becoming less and less important in the world on Apple news. And with that attitude will continue to become so.

I know this should be in 'Site Feedback", but if I put it there I'll be banned for multiple posting.

Holly ****! Get a life! Get out much?
