"how it feels in hand". REALLY? so the paper printout will weigh 1.5 pounds and have a smooth aluminum/glass finish? the more u defend the article the dumber it appears. and as far as getting a "sense of scale", a ruler would be quite sufficient. sheesh.
Its quite common for good graphic designers to experiment with/ and use a real object when developing new projects. It is advantageous compared to using a artificial program on a computer screen. Sorry, thats hard to describe.
