Sony makes repairable true wireless earbuds?
Absolutely yeah - the unit can be non-destructively disassembled just fine, and uses commodity rechargeable lithium coin cells. Totally doable by a mom & pop repair shop without it being a nightmare. They dont get enough credit for that (or more specifically, Apple doesn't get enough đź’© for that)

...and to add insult to injury the Sony's are best-in-class in terms of sound and ANC (the only thing keeping me from using them is the lack of H2 for seamless handoff, which is a gamechanger for me) so there are no compromises for that in having something independently repairable.

AirPods are disposable, they’re made to be simply thrown away in 2-3 years.
It started messing up in less than 6 months. After that I was lucky if the replacement pairs lasted 2 months. They lasted less than 2 years. My previous pair, original AirPods I cleaned up and gave to my stepdad so they lasted a little over 4 years.

Besides that, who the hell thinks you should just throw away $250 earbuds after 2 years? lol

I'm not sure if brofkand's actually on your side but being unsuccessfully cynical with it, but in either case you're absolutely correct if they weren't abused.

The original AirPods Pro had a design flaw that Apple acknowledged but never fixed except in the new model. This is typical of Apple.

As far as who thinks you should throw them away? The millions of people who buy these environmental disasters do, apparently.

All depends on the user or the amount of time the AirPods is used. If you consider the AirPod a disposable device, then an iPhone, iPad, and even a "Mac" a disposable device :)

Now, in relation to the OP of this thread, the least Apple's Customer Support should have done after explaining that the warranty was over, was to instruct the customer (the OP) how to clean the AirPods as shown in numerous YouTube videos.

At least it’s reasonably simple to replace the battery in a Mac or iPhone.

Agree.

I wonder if the batteries in the AirPods can be replaced? After all, the AirPods are more expensive than most earbuds, including ones with removable batteries.

And that's why they didn't include AirPods in their Environment Reports. They got iPhone, iPad, Mac, Display, Vision Pro, and even iPod touch in the report, but not the world bestselling earbuds.

I recently encountered a disappointing experience with Apple’s customer service, both in-store and over the phone. My AirPods Pro began producing a crackling noise—a well-documented manufacturing defect acknowledged by Apple. However, because this issue surfaced more than three years after my purchase, Apple’s only recommendation was to buy a new pair for over $250, plus tax.

It’s disheartening that a company can overlook a known manufacturing defect and suggest that customers simply purchase a replacement. This approach seems unjust and uncharacteristic of a reputable American company. When a defect is known, failing to provide a solution to affected customers borders on negligence. I urge any law firms willing to address this issue to take action; consumers would greatly appreciate it. We must hold Apple accountable and prevent such practices from continuing.
You can always see if there is a Class Action Lawsuit going on and join it, or get one started. 🤠

Well to be fair they are 3 years old. How long should Apple continue to provide free repairs/replacements. Forever?

The point is not that Apple should have a forever warranty. The fact is that without Apple officially admitting that the product is defective and announcing it to the public, there is nothing the buyer can do about it past the product's warranty. Even so, a "caring" Customer Support person should still go a little out of his or her way-without breaking the company's rules- to keep the customer happy. In most instances, the users themselves have figured how to reduce the amount of AirPods crackling noises. There are numerous of such videos in YouTube.

I agree and appreciate that you took the liberty and courage in posting this comment,
not to many people are ready to stand up for their believes that
a company such as  should be held accountable for when they offer anti-ecological solutions.
i feel bad that you are stuck with the earpods, and out of well earned money.
we should not RENT products that are expensive and disposable,
as  should be held accountable.

Some one mentioned Sony™, as i agree they make better musical products
that sound, last, cost less and operate much better than anything  produces.
My 2 Sony™ mp3 players sound, cost much less and work better than the iphone and a pair of earpods.

 wont be held accountable for anything they lie about since we foolishly inflated this company all these decades.
thankfully, there are better alternatives out there to help us enjoy music, movies and our wallets!

May have been true with the WF-1000XM4 earbuds but not with the newer WF-1000XM5 -

I have the WF-1000XM4, WF-1000XM5, and AirPod Pro 2 and wouldn't call the Sony's superior.

You’re lucky you got 3 years use, I wouldn’t be complaining. I recycled my air pods just after a year.
One year? Wow! Did you replace them with another Apple version or go elsewhere.

Mine are just over 2 year old and are now failing.

I use on ear headphones currently, (Marley brand I got as a Christmas gift) I am not comfortable using in ear headphones. Mine were perfectly functional, but, I don’t like plastic in my ear. That’s the only reason.

I purchased pair of Pro2's. Got a great deal at Costco.

People in Europe get 3 years warranty, but it is much better to get apple AI than 3 year warranty🤔
I love the AI comment. So Apple should forgo adding new capabilities and give people a three year warranty?

We are taking about a $250, three year old product...by a new set or better yet, buy another pair from a competitor.
