I bet you good money that there will be dozens of Chinese companies that will provide 3rd-party clasps/straps/lugs/bands and other accessories for the Apple Watch, in every imaginable shape, size, color, and pricing range.

If I'm gong to plunk down $5K for a watch I'm not buying a knockoff band.

I'm also thinking about getting the 38mm, but have a question about battery life.

Could it be that battery life is worse on the smaller version (due to reduced space and maybe a smaller batter size than the bigger version)?

As Recode already reported battery life is unlikely better than one day:

If the 38mm has a smaller battery it could get problematic in heavy use.

That is my worry also...I hope the battery life isn't hindered in the smaller device

This is a BIG question. They will have different batterie requirements because the 42mm will have a larger screen and require more power. With the added space the batt can be even larger than the power requirement difference. So we could have a longer lasting batt in the 42mm much like the 6 and 6Plus. Unless Apple 'cripples' the 42mm by not utilizing all the extra space for batt to keep the specs the same.

This 1 day power approach is a real concern for me, I would not like to see my watch ( and yes, it would be a watch for me ) dying when I can't get it charged within 24 hours.

If Apple can't solve this they should use a battery & charging technology which is able to provide a full charge within 15 minutes, as the best compromise, IMO.

'Quick' charging lit-ion's is possible but it shortens the life (fewer cycles) of the batt significantly. I doubt Apple would implement this because of the higher percentage of premature dead batteries this would cause. Remember Apple deals in the multi millions and so even a few 100,000 is a small percentage relatively but still a HUGE absolute number.

You do realize this is a non factor since your phone needs to be charged every day anyway which the watch needs to work.

Sorry, my midsize Tag is 25mm across the face.

38mm from the left side of the case to the edge of the crown on the right and 40mm from lug to lug

Sorry, I meant the horizontal dimension, not the size of the actual face. Your watch is 38mm across and 40mm lug to lug, which is noticeably larger than the 38mm Apple Watch, which is about 33mm across and 38mm lug to lug.

I hope (I know not likely) Apple will have demo/dummy models in the Apple Stores 6 to 8 weeks before launch. Since the aWatch is such a personal device it would be nice to be able to try on 38mm/42mm and different bands so we could preorder more correctly. This would have several benefits.

1) Lower returns/exchanges
2) Increases anticipation with press coverage
3) Increase foot traffic (as if Apple Stores need that:D).

yeaaa right...probably pink too?!! ugh what happened to society...

pssst... >.> is it gonna be available in pink?
