Actually I don't expect to have to adapt the way I hold my phone or put a cheap ugly case on it for it to work reliably when it cost me £599 (approximately $920) to buy in the first place.

I am a huge Apple fan, but I am really unimpressed by this obvious design flaw, and even more so by Apple's supposedly generous offer to hand out free bumper cases that probably cost them less than $1 each to manufacture.

Apple are not shy about charging top dollar for their products, so they should not hesitate to put things right, properly.

In my view Apple should do no less than fix the hardware and then offer every iPhone 4 owner a new replacement unit free of charge.

Good luck with that desire!

I agree that Jobs seemed upset, I bet he's glad the conference is over with.

There are product flaws and recalls all the time but this one has been paid furious attention.

I paraphrase from memory, this remark: "It's been 22 days. It's not like we've had our heads stuck in the sand for 3 months, guys."

My intuition says "3 months" refers to the oil spill, which has gone on for about 3 months now with the media easing up on the White House every day. The relative gravity of that versus the iPhone antenna is huge, but the press has been hounding Apple like it's good fun to finally crack the whip at them. Microsoft is all scarred up, it's no fun beating them up anymore, they don't even whimper.
