I've been waiting on that price drop. In a couple weeks I am going to buy two iPad ones to use as in car entertainment for my kids. The best thing about it...accessories like car headrest mounts, are dirt cheap.

Hey on Amazon they are giving $240 for a 1st gen 16gb wifi + 3G. It comes as amazon store credit, but I shop there for everything (Prime member)

I'm a Prime member as well. Good to know though! I'll be doing that if mine doesn't sell when the auction is up.

Your problem is selling it on eBay. I sold my iPad 32GB black for $275. Last Sunday via Craigslist.

I sold my iPad 32GB + 3G for $300 on Monday 3/12 via CL. Once I dropped the price from $325 to $300 it sold within 15 minutes.

my ebay auction ended 20 mins ago, and I got £205 ($320) for my iPad 1 (with the dock and a case) once my new iPad arrives tomorrow, i'll set it up restoring the backup and nip down the post office with this one, assuming they've paid by then.

I maybe lost out on £20 or so by not selling it weeks ago, which i'm happy with as i didn't have to be without an iPad.

I agree that compared with most tech, iOS (all Apple stuff actually) devices hold there value amazingly well.

I'm happy for all the people that can now afford an iPad. . . (I think the original iPad is still awesome, i still use mine daily for work n play)

It's possible that in 5 years the iPad 1 may increase in value. Eventually it will become somewhat of a 'collector's item' and people will want to own the original device that revolutionized that tablet/postPC market.
My thoughts exactly. :)

iPod Touch

remember what happened to the iPod touch resale value?

Wait till the 4" iPhone 5 release, iPhone 3GS/4 resale will go down.

it is expected with Retina display on iPad 3 that the older model will fetch lower $$$

You should have moved a little sooner.
I sold my wifi 32Gb iPad 1 for $325.00 a week before the announcement on CL.
I mean it was a given that it will drop in value once the 3rd generation is announced.

I really really want an iPad 3, but unlike OP. I can't justify tossing or sellign or donating my first gen iPad. OS5.1 made it way better, and well, it still friggin' works, and works great. Either way I am happy just to have an iPad!

I'm getting great value from my ipad1 everyday, no intentions to ever sell it. The reason is because I prefer an extra iPad over $275.

ive had an ipad 1 for awhile now. its a 32 gb 3g. its always has fit my needs. i would have gained nothing by upgrading to an ipad 2. a couple weeks ago ipad 1 32gb with 3g was selling for 345 dollars buy now on ebay. usually. now its 275. even lower. honestly at 275 im thinking why even bother selling it. Never thought the ipad 1 price would get so hosed. anyway looks like i will be passing it on to a family member rather then selling because 275 bucks isnt even worth my time.

I checked yesterday in trying to come up with a fair price for selling my 32Gb 3G model, and looking at the completed items, looked like selling for $229 - 285. I don't pay too much attention to ones that haven't sold yet that haven't met reserve, because a lot of people want a lot.

Problem is that you also have iPad 2's for sale, even a new model.

I figure it will even get a little lower once many of the sellers have a 3rd generation in hand and want to sell the older one. Selling it before now means many would be selling their existing unit.

I was able to sell my 16GB iPad 1 to a friend last week for $250. He gave me the cash, and the great thing was he let me hang onto the iPad until my new one gets here. I would have gotten max value if I had sold it a couple of weeks ago, but I didn't want to go 2 weeks without an iPad.

this could have been forseen in march of last year when the ipad 1 went on sale for 350, so i don't see how it is a surprise to anyone, especially if they are on this forum!

sorry op. and, i don't see that price as too bad for an old device. you cannot sell a netbook from the same year, even though it cost the same amount as the ipad. anything more than 200 seems like a fair price to me, lol.

I sold my first gen 16GB Wifi only for $250. Either way as others have said; it's a 2 year old device that millions of people bought and sold when the iPad 2 came out. Getting half the amount of my investment back to put into a new one in this economy is amazing.

who would honestly pay more than $250 for a gen 1 ipad when you can get refurbed ipad 2's, used ipad 2's, etc etc?
