Nothing strange about the manhunt. They do it in other countries too - any store that gets broken into usually is of high economic importance, so there's a hunt immediately after any break-ins.

Private residences getting burgled? Screw you, peons! The police have more important things to do, like eating donuts.

'burgles' doesn't work in the sentence though..

Americans make up for the extra syllables by pronouncing "aluminum" without collecting extra vowels along the way.

then we lose the above advantage because some of us will add an extra syllable to burglar.. don't be t0o surprised if you hear an american say 'berg-a-ler'.
