Sorry didn't read the whole thread.

Manny got busted for pot again ?
:p

btw I'm very happy Griffey came back to Seattle even though he's just a figurehead. Seattle loved him. And we welcome him back.

The moron decided to use a banned drug (linked to steroid cycling) to fix his erectile dysfunction.

Just waiting for him to try medical grade morphine or cocaine for a bunion.

Jim Tome too.

I suspect Thome. His numbers have gone to hell since all the PED testing started up. He was never that great before the Sosa/McGwire boom of the late 90s.

Yeah, like Mark MacGuire and José Canseco!

Both of those players were very gifted without the drugs, and did put up impressive seasons on their own. I think in both cases, it was injuries and the desires to come back stronger and better than before that presented an opportunity to take PEDs.

No line can be drawn to juiced and non-juiced players. Steroids and their ilk have been around for decades. But I feel more confident in a hitter's stats from 1989 or even 1991 than I do from 1999 or 2000, at the height of the long-ball era - when shortstops known for swiping bases and hitting 1 or 2 HRs per year were getting 20+...

Thome hasnt been the same since they started talking about steroids.

What does everyone think of Manny's Hall of Fame chances now?

An interesting twist: I just heard on the radio the Dodgers are offering refunds to everyone who purchased seats in the $200 "Mannywood" section.

I'm not sure if it's just for dates during the suspension or for the whole season...

As a Cleveland fan, I remember cheering Manny when he was a rookie outfielder, tremendously gifted at the plate and prone to silly errors on the baseline and in the outfield. Thome was a cannon - that guy could turn pop-flys into home runs through sheer power (and he also struck out a LOT). He always used to say he'd finish out his career in Cleveland, but he was expensive and we had to rebuild eventually. He was entertaining, but any player his size will naturally fall under suspicion for PED use.

Now, it's all becoming dead to me. So few great players are left untainted, and I do sincerely hope that PED use prevents players from being inducted into the hall of fame. They don't deserve to be honored with great players who did not use PED.

Well, back in April,Manny expressed a desire to return to his beginnings:
Ramirez, who early last month signed a two-year, $45 million deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers, says a return to the Cleveland Indians before retirement would be ideal.

"I would like to play for Cleveland one more time, to go back where I started," Ramirez told USA Today. "I have so many good memories there, why not?

We'll see if he gets his wish

Like Manny himself, I have good memories of him playing for the Tribe. But the Manny that plays today is not the same kid I remember in the outfield in 1994.

PED issues aside, he'd probably have to take a big pay cut to come back to Cleveland - I doubt we'd be willing to spend that kind of money.

he didnt test positive for steroids. he tested positive for a women's fertility drug that is used at the end of a steroid cycle to help jump start his own testosterone production.

No, read the article.
He did test positive for steroids. While investigating that MLB found evidence that he took hCG as well. MLB decided to suspend him for the hCG use because they felt the evidence was more irrefutable (and in fact MR did not refute it).

No, read the article more closely. It says:
using the female fertility drug human chorionic gonadotropin, or hCG.

So it isn't a steroid, hCG is a female fertility drug just like ViciousShadow21 said. He was pinged on the test because he had high levels of testosterone. They suspended him because they had documentation of him using the drug.
