Check if your config.plist has ProvideConsoleGop enabled and Resolution set to Max (you may also force resolution with WxH@Bpp (1920x1080@32) or WxH (1920x1080) instead)

Edit: solved my issue by using DisplayPort instead of HDMI. Found the tip on Reddit. A strange one, but a simple solution.
This is what I have currently. Those settings are already enabled. Not sure I understand the force resolution, but I went from a 1080p 60hz to 1440p 60/75hz display.

My setup:
- MacPro5,1
- BootROM 144.0.0
- Gigabyte HD 7870 (flashed with this ROM)
- I have a working native OS El Capitan.
I want to install mojave or High sierra on it. So I made an USB with:
- booteable Mojave installer
- with OCLP on the USB and radgp=15 (on boot-args in config.plist) and -no_compat_check (because I tried first with High Sierra and I was told it needed that flag as it is spoofed as a Mac Pro 7,1 or smthing like that...)
- I was told that in the OCLP i could use also AMDinjection (on Developer settings) but that it shouldn't be required...
The thing is that when click on the boot picker "Install macOS Mojave", the progress bar on the apple logo gets stuck and the installer never gets to boot...
I appreciate your time reading this and I wish you can help me,

Always use verbose mode if something is hanging. A progress bar tells nothing…

This will never work for two reasons:
OCLP do not support anything earlier than Big Sur, so, install High Sierra/Mojave natively. You will have more chance of success with native High Sierra.
A HD 7870 flashed with Mac EFI stops working after High Sierra, unless is an extremely rare binned down Tahiti version and not the much more common Pitcairn - check with GPU-Z which version you have. You have to flash the factory firmware back if you want to install/run Mojave and later with a Pitcairn, no workarounds.

Check the database at TechPowerup.com. They have a huge archive of original ROMs for GPUs. Just make sure you get the proper one since there are so many versions of each card.

If it is compatible with mojave or higher Os If so, are my boot ARGS and options correct or if I'm missing something...

If not, Catalina, big sur?

I have a MSI 7870 GHz version and I know one thing or two about support these Pitcairn cards.
For a Pitcairn based PC GPU, run High Sierra natively. Hit or miss with anything newer, so, install High Sierra and then after you get a stable system you can try anything newer later.
Anyway, it's a extremely poorly supported GPU and you can avoid a lot of headaches going for something like a RX 460/560 instead.
My advice is to get rid of this card if you want to run anything newer than High Sierra.

With MacPro7,1 GPUs usually a card that is officially supported by Apple can be made to work with MacPro5,1 relatively easily, but the same is not possible with MacPro6,1.

just installed today high sierra on macpro5,1 with ati 5770;
it did ask for firmware update first, so i would first update to high sierra, and then you can easier go on to mojave;
the 7870 should function for the metal, but i am not knowledgeable enough, maybe the installer will complain. good luck.

You can use a USB flash drive or other secondary volume as a startup disk from which to install the Mac operating system. These steps are primarily for system administrators and other experienced users.

That’s too bad. The GPU architecture is the same, pro or not. It’s especially odd since so many off-the-shelf Polaris cards work. If the OP is on the hunt, there are a lot of cheap RX 480s out there. I have the XFX variant, and it works perfectly. Years ago, I do recall getting an RX 560 that didn’t work and ended up getting a 580 instead.

The only thing the same is the name of the GPU chip.
The Pitcairn chip destined to be used for a FirePro D300 is specially binned, have a different PCIe ID, firmware is completely different, straps are fused differently, outputs are completely different (one of the D300 is a compute GPU only) and a MacPro6,1 GPU hardware designs are completely different from a PC GPU (yes, are, since the cards are different from the compute one to the other that have the outputs).
That's why you can't make a parallel. Apple supported the FirePro D300 of the late-2013 Mac Pro, not the PC GPU with a Pitcairn chip. Would be easy to support it, but they never did after High Sierra.

- @Macschrauber I've tried the verbose mode, it showed a critical error related to the GPU's vBIOS... and then stuck on smthing like "webcontentfilter triggered rebuild", sorry I didn't take a picture, it was late, I will try later again and take a phto if you can't tell me anything with this info...
Maybe I flashed the GPU wrong?...
- @Darmok N Jalad , I filtered the ROMs in Techpowerup like this and chose the newest one, did I do somthing wrong?

the thing is that it ever boots (no OCLP, no patcher of any type...). I think it has something to do with the flashing as I told the other member, could it be?
The guy who sold the card to me flashed it with this ROM from Techpowerup, and I even was able to boot Mojave... but I had some issues, sometimes the screen got black, or sometimes I could only move and see the mouse symbol but the screen was frozen... That's why I'm trying to flash it correctly and installing again at least high Sierra.
Finally, I don't like the idea of getting rid of this card, it worked great with Sierra (and even Mojave as i told you, but with the bad flashing) natively, that and being a Pitacairn is why i think I flashed it wrongly...
so, to summarize:
- did I choose the correct ROM?
- if so, could I run High Sierra natively?

Usually a card flash is a "works or it doesn't" issue, especially if you used the ROM the previous card owner used. There's a chance the card is just starting to go bad. I assume the fan is spinning on it?

Your issues are not related to this thread in any way, you should open a dedicated thread for this.
You Mac Pro supports High Sierra without any hacks/patches/loaders.
I stand by my advice of getting rid of this GPU, this is an extremely poorly supported GPU after High Sierra and you won't know if the card is defective/incorrectly flashed/etc running Mojave since all Pitcairn based PC GPUs have issues with Mojave even with the correct factory unmodified firmware. The time you are spending with this card can be used to solve other issues and a better supported GPU won't keep you limited to High Sierra.
Test the hell out of this GPU with High Sierra (also with Windows) and use the card label info, usually on the back of the card, to try to identify the correct firmware. You can also try to ask Gigabyte support for your original GPU firmware.

I did use 5,1, as you suggested, and I have both Big Sur and Ventura working. I'm not willing to test his advice by reinstalling OCLP set for 4,1, unless he can explain why the OCLP team asks me to choose if it doesn't matter.

You will only select MacPro4,1 if your early-2009 is still flashed with a MP4,1 firmware.
Even if everything else hardware wise is completely equal, an early-2009 still with MP4,1 EFI is not the same or behave the same as the same Mac cross-flashed to MP5,1 EFI firmware.
From the top of my head, probably forgetting some things:
- MacPro4,1 NVRAM volume only have one VSS store, while the MacPro5,1 have two.
- FTW store of MacPro4,1 stores logs, MacPro5,1 do not even have one.
- different FirmwareFeaturesMask support, with several implications.
- extremely obsolete Intel microcodes.
- no Meltdown or Spectre mitigations.
- no Westmere Xeon support.
- no native APFS support.
- no native NVMe support.
- no 5GT/s support for 3rd party PCIe cards, all PCIe cards are configured an initialized as PCIe v1.0 except Apple OEM or MacEdition cards.
If your query is purely about OCLP (without any concern for the actual OC underneath, which is to say, post #1 seems irrelevant), then I’m afraid it is off-topic.
I believe I came here on the advice of Moth, belatedly realizing that the focus was plain OC, not OCLP. I had stumbled upon OCLP without knowing about OC. I would love it if smebody would explain the superiority of plain OC. Does the OC program ask me to set it up for either 4.1 or 5.1? If not, I would love to understand why. Your posts indicate that this thread should include those with the 4,1 > 5.1 mod (which got me from El Capitan to High Sierra) and also makes reference to OCLP. Seems like a comparison is fair game.

There is no pretence of superiority here (especially since Ventura is not yet possible without the “rigid” OS alterations that OCLP provides). It’s just a matter of what this thread is really about. I encourage you to take a look at the introduction in post #1 to get an idea.
Regarding your concern, I must say that @tsialex has addressed it beautifully in the spirit of this thread, with valuable information that goes beyond what you should select in OCLP.
I've been using Ventura for a few days on my 2009 4.1 Mac Pro, 5.1 SMBIOS, 3GB RAM, spinning HD, single 2.66 Quad, and GeForce 120 GT. It runs Ventura slow as hell, and I've heard there are a couple of things not working I don't care about, but it's fun to see the changes. I might just hang on to it to see how much the next version of Ventura or OCLP or a hardware upgrade improves it. I usually boot up Big Sur, which is working great and may well be the end of the line for me. Yes, I liked his post, but it's over my head.
