Did Apple EVER promise these new MacBooks would be available first thing in the morning in every store? I doubt it. If they have some by end of day, they'll have hit their target.

The press release stated :-

"The all-new MacBook will begin shipping Friday, April 10 through the Apple Online Store (www.apple.com), Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers."

There are none in any UK stores at the moment.

2 reasons:

1. Because it's crap like iP5C and has limited supply

2. They want to have their store limited to Apple Watch, so employees can focus on selling an overpriced/useless(for most) watch.

The idea is that she can make trading decisions for her own stock with full knowledge of the secret insider information. She files the disclosure. Months later, the stock trade happens. By that time, the information is no longer secret, the stock price has already accounted for the information, and she has gained essentially no advantage relative to the general public from her once-secret knowledge.

Where were you when the GTA Execs selling their stock just before it came out that the whole sapphire iPhone usage was a bust? That was actually the very same thing- stock sales plan disclosed well in advance- but boy was it viewed differently around here.

Was really interested in seeing it today, they had non in store. Very disappointing.

Just ordered a Space Gray 256 and upgraded to the 1.3 GHz. No estimate on delivery. I did have it sent to the Apple Store.

I just returned from one local Apple Store and just as noted online they had none in stock, just the display models. The employee noted they were surprised to find out no units were available today.

I did get a few minutes to play around with a unit and I am still confused whether to go with the MacBook or just upgrade my MacBook Air. The unit might actually be too small to comfortably sit on my lap and type. The new keys did not seem to be an issue but the trackpad might take some getting used to.

For me the 13" Air is the perfect size, it just needs a Retina display even if I had to give up a hour of battery life.

If I order it will probably be the 1.3Ghz version with 256GB of flash storage.

I am surprised that the stores didn't even get display units yet. Someone looking at the Watch might well have seen the MacBook and placed 2 orders. I'm not too surprised that the stores didn't have stock for sale, though since they are shipping in 1-3 business days I expect they will have them next week. That's happened before with MacBook Air releases, though usually the bigger stores had them in stock.

To me, Apple was not clear on this or the Apple Watch's availability.

Saying "available on 4/10/15" leads many (most) people to think you can actually get one, not just preorder.

it clearly said available for pre-order on both their home page and apple store website.

the macbook always said 'coming soon'

Riddle me this: Why would "Ship to store", which was ordered first with the same shipping speed show an arrival one week later c/w the same model shipped to my business address in the same town but ordered later?

I just don't get out how screwed up Apple is at selling their products.

Reading into everything that's happened since the Apple event, I don't feel Apple had good production for this laptop. A few items to note:

1. This laptop was delayed several quarters. This model was suppose to be launched mid last year and all reports said it was due to production issues.

2. A few weeks ago I called three Apple stores in the DC area. All three told me they would have this laptop for sale today.

3. Yesterday I called the same three Apple stores. They said they were not sure if they would have them for sale but they would have it on display.

4. This morning I went to one Apple store (flagship store) and was told they had it on display and none were for sale. I was told to buy it "online".

I don't understand why Apple is being vague about when their products will be available. It's not difficult to tell people when a device will be available for purchase. Also, why play word games such as "shipping" and "available" Sorry, but if an item is "shipping" on 4/10/15 it only takes a few days to reach it's location. It seems to me this device is still in production in China and they had issues.

I can obviously wait. My frustration is I've been waiting since last year (basically over a year) for this laptop and after the Apple event it was suppose to be available today. But, it's not.

During the announcement they said "shipping on 4/18/15". Take every other device they have launched. When they said "shipping on x/x/x" that device was in the store and available to buy on that same day.

To be fair, unannounced products can't be delayed. Rumors are just that, rumors. For all we know, the laptop was always going to ship in April.

Doesn't matter for me, I want the 1.3 GHz processor anyway. And that one has a 3 to 4 weeks dispatch date. However there was one available at a Colorado store, but then disappeared when I refreshed the screen. It was the black high-end edition.

I think you just order them online and they shipped the same day

They may be missing their target in the UK in that case. With that language, I would say they ought to have at least one for sale in each store by close of business.

"None in any UK stores at the moment" isn't quite the same as "none in any UK stores today." (Being a skeptic, I wouldn't take either statement at face value unless someone I knew and trusted had telephoned each store toady and gotten a firm answer from a manager or supervisor. But that's just me.)

My experience is only with USA stores, and it's still early enough in the day here that most stores won't have the day's shipment yet. We'll have to wait and see. I'll probably be at my local later today to look at watches. But I'll try to find out about MacBooks while I'm there.

WTF is the point of the apple store. Surely, it's to show people the products?
People who make the effort to go to the store should get preference on launch to leave the store with the newest product in hand? At least have limited availability. This launch of the Watch and the rMacBook is a joke. They've been bleating about the Watch and the MacBook for the last 6 weeks and then have no stock on launch/pre-order day. Announcing stuff before it's ready?

GET OUT OF THE STORE AND GO HOME TO YOUR IMAC AND ORDER IT.

FYI. 4-6 weeks dispatch time on rMacBook when I checked a couple of hours ago. Pointless ordering online.

I guess they are just so ashamed of themselves to be charging 80 bucks for a dongle that should be a pack in, that they can't do it in person.

That's not going to make a lot of skinny macbook potential buyers happy.

A big part of their buying incentive is to be able to parade around the mall on launch day, pointing to their bag saying, "It's the gold one, and just one port to worry about!"

This is so me & you're on point.

**** you Angela Ahrendts. I wasn't even planning on getting this one, but I feel for those that were.

Bring back Ron.

Were there any MacBooks on display?

I don't believe that's the case ;)

The excessive shipping time for the gold model shows some people liked it. It's a fine system for what it is: an early adopter's road warrior.

I went to the Georgetown store in DC around 10:30am and it was pretty packed. Was able to play with the new Macbook in Gold and the Apple Watch for as long as I wanted. Took plenty of pics & video.

I did set my alarm for 3am EST this morning.. and could have ordered the new Macbook in Gold w/256GB SSD that was scheduled to ship in "1 business day" but figured why wait till Monday or Tuesday to get it. When I could just go to the store right now and buy it immediately. Doesnt have to be said how disappointed I am that I had to order online and was quoted 3-4weeks for delivery. :(

Worst new product launch I can remember, Products not available for public viewing, let alone retail in the store`s that Apple make so much of, what a Joke...

I can fully understand Apple`s supply chain issues, equally it would have cost Apple absolutely nothing to have listed accurate in store dates by country, once the official reveal was done. All Apple have achieved is to generate a lot of negative press across the community, disappoint customers etc

Apple need to think about "thinning the herd" stop paying big bucks for those that can't deliver or can't get basic facts accurately out to the public...

Q-6

So how about a quick review? What did you think of it? How well did it work? Did you try to push it a little and see how it handled something demanding? What's great about it? What's not great about it? Standout flaws? Are you buying one or did getting to see it move you toward one of the others?

The sky is falling, the sky is falling!

Seriously though, they could have at least had some iPad's... I mean iPhones, oh boy, this is embarrassing. I meant the new Macbooks. Why don't they have any in stock? They must be dud's, because I'm clearly their target market and I don't like it. The Apple exec team needs to get it together, they're starting to fall apart. If they don't get their act together Samsung/HTC/Moto is going to take their market share. And to go with that, their stock is probably going to stumble, just like they have with this roll out of not only hardware, but the recent issues with the OSX release.

Seems like Tim should have pushed the launch date to ensure adequate supplies for this and the watch. I know folks are eager for Apple to release products but this is just embarrassing.

Nah. This happens with every single major Apple release. The scarcity value is part of the plan. Cue all the news reports about how hard it is to buy a retina macbook as they are so popular
