That's not the point. When Google Maps was new it was probably 20 times worse than this. The point is that there is a FAR BETTER solution out there that Apple is preventing us from using. Yeah yeah there's maps.google.com but realistically that's not a true solution.

No one is preventing you from using better solutions, go download the better map apps from app store...

My thoughts exactly, 100%.

I can't believe how many people are so quick to defend Apple on this one. It's ridiculous.

If Apple wanted to replace the existing Maps, they needed to be sure it was BETTER than before. Period. No "aww it's their first time, how cute" excuses. You people are completely ridiculous.

Would you say the same thing if iMessage only worked half the time? Sending your messages to the wrong people, or not at all? "It's okay, Apple is new to text messages... Don't worry, it will get better!"

No. Something like this MUST be reliable and accurate.

Totally agree... If you bought a iPhone 4/4s knowing it came with Google maps only to have it pulled from you a year into owning it, you would expect what REPLACES it to be better..

Apple really should have kept Google Maps and ran Apple Maps in parallel.

HOWEVER..

Let's not forget that the Google maps contract ended this year. We still aren't even sure if it was Apple or Google who refused to continue on that path. Google could have very well pulled the rug out on Apple.

its a database people. maybe after apple has 8 years to perfect it like google, itll be near perfect, jesus, i wish we could go back to googlemaps on their first year and see how "imperfect" it was.

give it a chance people, good god....

Whilst I agree with your sentiment, the fact is that Apple took something away an excellent app and replaced it with a piece of garbage.

It's irrelevant that it took Google 8 years to perfect its mapping data sets. They have it now and Apple doesn't. No one really needs to wait for Apple to get it right. Maps have become a core functionality of smartphones, and for those who need accurate maps may choose another device. Perhaps it will be a non issue though if Google releases maps on iOS soon. We'll see.

No need to go back that far, I had google maps sent me to the middle of a farm while looking for a soccer field in Ohio. The field was actually over half a mile away.

Doesn't mean throw out google maps.

----------

Apple would benefit us by working on accuracy first; cool features second. Then, include it in the IOS.

I have said this before, but I am not having any issue with Apple Maps
and have been using it since mid July.

I get your point, but the difference here is we were switched from something that works to something that doesn't.

Many rely on maps and base their day to day off of that. Before iPhone with google maps, I had a TomTom.

Siri, sure label as beta. That's one thing. Switching a great map program to your own non polished version is something else.

I don't rely on maps so no real issue to me, but I can understand how many are unhappy.
I use maps all day long for work, and I use up to 4 different ones because no map program is 100% and anyone who uses maps everyday knows this. Google isn't perfect also. Surprisingly Mapquest was the most accurate of all that I use during the day. This is no different for people who uses maps daily.

step 1: maps.google.com in safari on your idevice.
step 2: when it loads the notification to save it on your home screen, do so.
step 3: use that.

Simple really.
Apple maps or Google maps, both are useless when out of network range and so, for trustworthy turn by turn, get Navigon or the like that has the data stored locally.

oh

step 4: stop with the "Gate" bit. Very old now.

I agree with all of everyone's replies to my comment, and believe me, maps perplex me too.... I find it funny that apple removed the YouTube app only to approve the AppStore version, yet won't accept google's Map app lol....

I miss the old maps but

My point.....

Some people are acting like its the apocalypse

Idk what everyone is talking about.
The only thing I've noticed is labels for a few streets around my town. The hybrid map still works well, and looks nothing at all like those crap screen shots above. It looks like google maps hybrid, with a few less named streets. Seriously maybe 5 streets I've noticed not labeled. That's all. Those screen shots aren't the hybrid map, that's the one with no texture or pics.
Use the little flip up page at the bottom of the page, and make it look like google. Idgi.

Apple should never have released Maps in this condition, there are simply far too many errors with the data.

Will they improve? Sure, but until then we have to settle for something a lot worse than Google Maps.

Tried to find a chain restaurant last night, and it came up with a nearby location that doesn't exist. Thank you Apple Maps!

Doubtful.... Why would google have thrown together a hasty Google Maps event (on iOS) mere days before Apple had their ios6 event earlier this year?

Problem solved

In Florida so far Apple Maps is more accurate then Goolge's solution. The Apple maps is not perfect but Google has been lazy and kept the best features of maps from Apple users. Now it has no choice then to step up Their game and complete. In the end I don't care who is better as long I get better choices.

"They are both correct. Android takes you to the Manhattan address while iOS takes you to the Brooklyn address. 15th St. is Marlborough St."

From a friend that lives in the area

It's astonishing to me that anyone believes that a company - even our beloved Apple - could produce a problem-free mapping solution their first time out. Why are people surprised? Just consider the volume of mapping data that google has gathered over years. It's mind boggling. Be reasonable. Quit bitching. And above all, quit sticking "-gate" after everything. It makes you look stupid.

What percentage of the readers of this forum even know the genesis of the term "-gate"? I'm pretty sure anyone under 30 has no idea where this term comes from.

I agree with your point about apple...but I'm in my early 20s and can tell you the -gate suffix comes from Watergate named after the complex of buildings broken into....the over 30 crowd doesn't have sole knowledge of American history...

Wow, really? Just accept a poor product from the most valuable company in the world eventually it'll get better. I can't believe we've come to the point of having an "accept crap for now" attitude. I bet your boss loves that approach.

Google Maps has had this same problem. There are always going to be quirky addresses that dont work for one reason or another.

Well apparently Navigon/Garmin has it wrong too cause that's where Navigon shows it as well (and it shows it on Marlborough Rd. as well but it is acknowledging the address I put it in).

So, with two maps saying one thing, and another saying another.. which is actually right?

(course the best thing to do is ask who ever lives there cause they would know for sure ;) ).

Really, you just said the over 30 crowd???
if anything I think the over 30 crowd know more and have more of a respect for American History.

And there we go....

And yeah, if you add the zip code, 10003, you get the same image as the google maps on the apple maps (I found that out by looking at the suggestions navigon gave me, noticed it did have two of those addresses but with different zips)...

The problem here was some one was not being specific enough on address so had a 50% chance of getting the right address.

That's exactly my point. The original post said anyone under 30 wouldn't know. I'm saying that you shouldn't generalize about the younger generation, a lot of us know more that you give us credit for. Not that it's relevant to the thread though, so whatever.
