I remember MapQuest. Way back in 2008, before GPS on phones became "a thing," I had to use MQ to print out directions to drive cross-country to find my girlfriend. Followed the directions to the letter, and wound up in a completely different part of the state. Almost had my car stolen. I thought, "what a wonderful time to be alive." FF to now and I still hate MapQuest.
At least you weren't using an early version of Apple Maps in Australia.

OpenStreetMap have created a custom "language" indicator. https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/1206310

There are lots of names that are controversial, most famous of others is Burma or Myanmar. But also relevant in these times, the "Arabian Gulf". Other unsolved transnational ones are the "East Sea".

For Türkiye or Turkey, it is only controversial because you want it to be. It is how they write and pronounce it themselves. If it is a good idea to add `ü` for the English name, I am a bit mixed about, because it is not an English letter.
The connotation with the bird (which is from North-America, so it ought to be called an `amerikey`) has not been flattering.

For Trump’s cases, I find it peculiar that no one opposed to that he is basically pissing on friendly neighbors and allies.

This is all about bits on a screen, but my concern through all of this is physical signs and physical books being made and used with “Gulf of America” or “Lake America” which will be used for only two and a half years before they have to be replaced with the old names.

How much taxpayer money has been used replacing signs along the Gulf? Double it. When a Dem wins in 2028, those EOs are gone.

Democrats- "you can't just rename Lake Ontario to Lake America, that's not how it works!!"

Also Democrats- "this is Jennifer, her name used to be John."

How is that mentally ill? 😂
Republicans- “Obama built a basketball court on the White House grounds! How dare he damage the People’s House!” (He had court lines painted on the tennis court and temp hoops put up)

Also Republicans- “Trump can modify the White House as he sees fit. We need the ballroom!”

These private corporations are under no obligation to follow the Executive Order, which doesn't apply to them.

Good on MapQuest. 👏

This is another attempted distraction from rock bottom poll numbers, a war of choice Don got himself stuck in and the Epstein files which he's all over.

Let’s see what happens with Apple. Trump was on the phone today with Tim per Sec. Burgum.

I have a feeling they will bend. 🙁

Do you think that’s bad, look what he’s gonna name this 🤣 ultimate 🧌

So they kept the name of the country "Turkey", right?

Oops, they didn't. Pop quiz, can anyone in these forums properly type the name of the country without any form of assistance? No autocomplete or spell check or searching for stuff.
Here’s a lesson on cherry-picking.
Case 1. Government requested changing the name on maps to conform to the country’s traditional name.
Case 2. Head of government orders changing the name on maps because of some stupid, petty, and childish personal grudge.
You: ******* government***** changing******name on maps****************

This will be a trendy statement just like any other… it will be shouted about until it doesn’t.
Look at the masks thing, or the Ukraine war stance by putting the flag on the bio… both of those things still exist, and the war is an extremely sad state of affairs that seems to have no end in sight. Yet people moved on.

This Mapquest thing? Same stuff, I give it a month

Unfortunately this is how people work, they get all panicy about something for a couple of weeks, then move on.

I agree. Modern society has the attention span (and memory) of a goldfish. It'll be swept under the rug in no time.

For Trump’s cases, I find it peculiar that no one opposed to that he is basically pissing on friendly neighbors and allies.

They also don't seem to care that he is a convicted felon and has ties to convicted pedophiles... So why would this be a problem?

The one thing I think anyone could/should be opposed to is the absolute waste of tax dollars every stunt like this takes. People argue that X or Y from the left or the right is a bigger waste. Ok, regardless of how you see things, how does that justify another waste of money that could have gone to any one of the things that a majority of people in the country agree on?

I'm so tired of people on both sides falling into the trap of occupying their time and energy with this crap.
