S'pose I could. Then they could check it on a proper map to confirm...

...Provided they haven't updated to IOS6 yet. :p

No, you report directly to Apple (from within the app - at least that is what I understand anyway :p).

What's disappointing for me is that at first I was excited that I could ask Siri for nearby places, only to realise that the data for these comes from the maps app, so when I asked where the nearest pub was, Siri told me it was 10km away when in actual fact is was 200m away!

I'm currently in a crappy small town in Denmark and it looks just great. Even tried turn-by-turn and it worked perfectly. I've been looking around other towns/cities and they look just fine to me, haven't experienced any problems here so far.

I know, another iOS6 maps thread but I just wanted to try and add some balance to the doom and gloom :D

If we are adding balance then it is only fair to share my personal experience. Thats what balance is about right?

Colchester England.
Colchester claims to be Britain's oldest recorded town. Its claim is based on a reference by Pliny the Elder, the Roman writer, in his Natural History (Historia Naturalis) in AD 77.

Yes, that is year 0077, yet apple can't even show it through the clouds!

Balance as in threads not the content of the thread.

Apple's maps do have a lot of potential because with Apple controlling them they can do what they want without the restrictions Google were apparently enforcing.

So, we should hopefully see things like offline capabilities in the future.

As things stand today, I really like the turn by turn interface and integration with Siri - it's clear and easy to use. I like the fact that I can ask Siri to find someone using find my friends and when they have I can say "Take me there" and I get routed straight to them.

I remain unconvinced by the 3D view though - I just don't see any real-world application for it beyond it looking cool in a presentation

Can understand the noise over Maps especially for those who've updated to iOS 6 but I'm sure Apple are working away behind the scenes to put alot of it right. It certainly has tarnished their branding somewhat but what I don't understand is when people are aware of this much publicised issue then they head off to get a new iDevice before whining about what they bought.

In some ways I think alot of the moaners are actually enjoying using Maps just to look for the mistakes and quite frankly, I wish I had the time for that but right now I'm happy to use alternative web-based maps for now (eg. google and Nokia) until things get better (which it will).

Can we help fix it?

I'm planning on getting an iPhone 5 next week.
If I use the newfangled panorama camera it comes with whenever I'm out and have a few minutes to spare, would Apple be willing to accept my street views by utilizing that geotag thingy to build a decent street view into the maps app.
We could all do our bit, and get this thing to work.
:D

Fanboyism is so out of hand... I feel sorry for you.

Thanks for posting.

I like that I can tell Siri "Take me Home" and it directs me to my address (that hasn't failed me yet).

Not navigation but the ability to rotate the maps is pretty cool. I'm not sure how quick Apple and Yelp! work together but providing photos and reviews for POI's is pretty handy.

You certainly can. You report misplaced POI's buy moving teh pin where it should be.

The options you have are as follows...

Incorrect, you have said balance as in when its good its very good.

The other side of is that when its bad its very bad!

What? This isn't even my thread?

This thread is supposed to be positive in light of all they negative ones.

Are you just trying to wind me up or are you really not getting it?

i know, another ios6 maps thread but i just wanted to try and add some balance to the doom and gloom :d

i think everyone would agree that in many areas there is still significant work required, but when it's good it's very very good and way ahead of anything i ever saw on gmaps

this isn't a map.

TomTom are to blame.

As a long time TomTom app user, I can tell you their maps are shockingly out of date.

One example? There's a roundabout near me been there for 15 years. FIFTEEN YEARS! and STILL TomTom haven't acknowledged it...

...Google have :D

Yes. When I read that Apple had partnered with Tom Tom, and hearing all the negatives about the new map app, it made me glad I've been using Garmin GPS for the last 6 years.

I have to admit, though, i live about 30 miles outside Philly and, so far, the Apple maps seem to be ok.

This is just a balls up, and it's bizarre to see people getting so defensive over it. Do you have apple stocks or something?

This is what I don't understand at all. There is this weird stick your head in the sand shouting LALALALA I'M NOT LISTENING mentality about it all. I am as big an Apple fan as most people out there, I have a ridiculous amount of Apple kit (phones, laptops, ipads, ipods, desktops etc), but no matter which way I look at it this is a huge downgrade in a piece of software I use very very regularly. Thankfully I upgraded my iPad first to test it out, I will leave my phone on iOS5 until google maps app has been released. My greatest concern beyond that is that any application I use that uses integrated maps will be using the Apple ones.

Nobody here is defending how bad it is. We're just trying to look at the positives about it.

I'm so surprised people don't understand the concept of this thread.

Just used Turn-By-Turn and it was quite superb.

Yeah it was great when I used it too. Directs were clear and it said the street names. I had to pay for that on my other sat nav app.

Heard somebody on another board said the Maps will cache your route once you set the direction so in a way it has offline capability, but only on your route.
Never test it though. No iPhone 5 yet. :D

This is discussed a lot. Let's see what Apple can do with it. In the meantime you can just report any incorrect data around you.

And what restrictions were those? I don't know how many times we heard Steve-o brag about how Apple really knows how to outsource and "partner" with other companies.

Just like Siri, Apple Maps is releases to the wild knowing full well fanboys will "alpha" test it and rationalize Apple's motives by starting threads like these.

Whatever makes you feel better I guess.

Because Google Maps is MASSIVELY up to date:

Oh yes. :)
Searching woolworths in Apple maps will also give you many results.
But you have to understand that not every one outside US or UK has the same awful experience as you. Can you accept that? If you can, please kindly leave this thread and continue your .... in the proper thread.
I live in the UK, in London, and have had an awful experience so far.
Flyover is a flashy feature but that's all it is.

Flyover will never be in my list of considerations when choosing a maps app- accuracy of maps and turn by turn would be highest and Apple sucks at both at present.

Also, the maps need more colour to separate things.
Couldn't agree more with the need for more colour! All the roads round here are the same colour and I was used to main roads being yellow/orange in google maps, it makes it so much easier to navigate and look at the maps.

I have a positive. Now terrorists can practice with apple maps on how to fly another plane into a building all in 3D! Score one for extremists. Nice.

Is Apple Maps as mature as Google Maps, nope; is there potential for Apple Maps, absolutely!

Don't worry people I've read that a Google Maps app is in the approval process at Apple, it will come soon.

I'm fortunate enough to live in Chicago where maps works great, in fact, when downtown I've found it to be much more accurate than Google Maps. Google Map frequently had me streets away from where I really was. It was so frustrating I stopped using them.

Flyover vs. street view? Depends on your need. I honestly never liked or used street view, just never saw the purpose of it. Flyover is fun, my kids love it but as with street view I don't see much practical use for it. It is fun to play with though. :)

I have so far been considering the problems with the maps as being mostly cosmetic, with not very good satelite images and pretty pictures for flyover not being quite right. I plan to visit a friend after work this evening, whose house I have not been to before, so I put his address and my address into the maps to get a route. Unfortunately, it seems to have decided I live somewhere entirely different. I live in Switzerland, where addresses are of the form

Streetname number,
postcode Townname,
Switzerland

Apple has decided that I acutally live at

Streetname number,
different-postcode Othertown,
Switzerland

Strangely, if I drop a pin on top of my houes, it comes up with the correct address, and if I drop a pin where it thinks I live, it comes up with the correct address for that pin. If it can't even manage to get 2 of the 5 fields in my address correctly matched, something is more seriously wrong than just some pictures being incorrect.
