PPI on iPad3

OK - Just thinking out loud:

If Apple builds a "retina display" iPad - meaning one with the same pixel density as the iPhone4 (326PPI) and double the pixels of today's iPad (1024px x 768px ->2048px x1536px) that would equate to a form factor with a screen diagonal of about 7.8"...

On the other hand, if they build a new hi-res iPad comparable to this iPhone5 rumored size (4" @ 960px x 640px) or 300PPI - that would mean an iPad3 with a diagonal of 8.5"...

Either way - we're looking at an iPad high res that's smaller than today... I, for some reason, seem to think that Apple will push towards 300PPI on both devices and we'll wind up with that 8.5" tablet.

Do the math! - I really want hi res screens and feel the current iPad is a bit too bulky. I hope I prove right!

Really hoping for a 15 inch MBA soon... my current MBP has had so many issues with the superdrive failing over the past few years... :(

Maybe you should just go ahead and get an external drive now? Rumors keep indicating that new designs of MBPros won't even have a superdrive included.

For the record, It wont be called an iPhone 5.. it will be called the iPhone 6.. Can't believe people still call it that..

I call BS on the iPhone. 4G chips won't be available in time for a summer launch. Also they pushed the release back to fall for a reason. It's taking the place of the iPod event. No more WWDC iPhone launches.
They are already shipping smaller supplies of LTE chips. Massa shipment starts in Q1 of 2012. The iPhone usually launches at the end of Q2 or the begin of Q3.

Besides that, who knows why it was at the iPod event this time: perhaps they cancelled the iPhone 5 last minute, and had to develop a quick replacement. Or perhaps work was much slower because Steve Jobs was having health issues (the iPhone 3GS was also a small upgrade because Steve was gone for 6 months).

-----
Anyway, I like how things sound: an iPad 3 with retina display and a 6th generation iPhone with a 4 inch display!

But I thought Apples were super high quality and lasted forever, and that's why they were so expensive?
haha... I'm a little rough with MBP so that's probably why I keep on having issues with my superdrive...

Applecare as always covered me to get it fixed when I've had issues, but I'm tempted to just get a computer without it, and just use a USB when ever I need to use a disk...

I only use my superdrive to inport my music into iTune anyway...

Good

Not sure if these rumors are correct, but they sure sound good.

A while ago there was a rumor that iPad 3 would be thinner. I just couldn't understand why in the world would we need the iPad to be any thinner than it already is? Are people looking to cut cheese with it or something? Having it be thicker if that helps with any more powerful internals (which we do need) would be just fine. So, finally, a rumor that makes sense.

Similar about a tapered phone. While it might help with fitting in jeans pockets, it just doesn't make sense to go to a design that would not be symmetrical when the phone is placed on a flat surface in landscape view. 4" screen seems just about the only significant improvement that anyone can think of. 4G would be great, but... does anyone think AT&T and others would allow us to keep our unlimited plans on the equipment good enough for streaming movies and TV? I'm very skeptical.

Finally, MBP rumors are just too good to be true. An ideal cross between Air and Pro? Great money saver for the consumer, but a questionable strategy for Apple. It'd be great if it was true, though.

So 2011 was mostly a software year, but looks like 2012 will be mostly a hardware year. Sounds about right.

It just sucks that I'm stuck on the "S" cycle for iPhone, but if the next iPhone is really supposed to be the legendary iPhone 5 that we dreamt up, then I might be willing to pay extra to break from the "S" cycle early.

The iPhone 5 is most likely coming out in the fall. I highly doubt they'll release the 5 so close to the 4S.

why, iPhone 4S users wont be able to update within a year anyway.

i got my iPhone 4 on release date and could upgrade in january with my contract ending during the summer (which would be perfect for the iPhone 6 or whatever) if they push it to fall, many people eligible to upgrade will look elsewhere, including me.

I would love a larger screen iPhone even though I love my iPhone 4S which has been replaced once in 2 weeks usage and to be replaced again next tuesday due to static issues.

Pun intended.

From the article:

- "The source indicates that 2012 will indeed see the launch of a thinner MacBook Pro form factor..."
- "Recent reports have claimed that an ultra-thin 15" Mac notebook, whether it be a MacBook Pro or MacBook Air..."

So which is it? MacRumor, indeed.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. iPad 3 with retina display. Can we move onto iPad 4 rumors now?

Can I start writing for this site?
I think I can predict all these same none sense w/ same accuracy.

If they release a new iPhone in less than a year I'm going to be pissed.

A 4" screen on a phone is still too small by today's standards where almost all high-end phone now are 4.3" - 4.6". I'd love to see at LEAST a 4.3" screen on the next iPhone with less of a bezel.

The iPhone 5 is most likely coming out in the fall. I highly doubt they'll release the 5 so close to the 4S.

The next iPhone will be released in September or October, because the iPod is no longer the star of Christmas. This means the next software can be announced at WWDC for release in the fall, which is much better than having to have a special software announcement in March or April.

You can tell when people posting "rumors" are just making it up when they say things like that. They think that the iPhone 4S was delayed, but it wasn't, it was on a different schedule.

When they say the iPhone 5 was delated they're just covering for the fact that there was no iPhone 5 planned, yet they posted a lot of rumors that there would be which were mostly fantasies made up by somebody.

Apple follows patterns-- 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, and they announce at the same time of the year for specific reasons. This year changed the pattern because the iPod has declined, but the rest of the patterns stay the same.

Sometimes reading these rumors is hilarious-- its obvious people are making stuff up to get page views.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

The people on here complaining about 0.7 mm increase in thickness are ridiculous. Do you know how small one millimetre is? You won't even notice the difference.
