Poor baby. If anything the AppStore propelled Facebook and Zuckerberg. There was no AppStore when fb came around and once it did that’s when it took off even further.

No.

Facebook was mainstream with college students long before the iPhone existed. I was in grad school when it came out (2004-2005ish), and everyone on campus was signed up within a few weeks. They opened to high school students in 2005, again, before iOS was a thing.

These companies do not need Apple's infrastructure, and can exist with or without Apple.

The keyword here is college students.

The iPhone created the Facebook we know today and spread it like wildfire. Not to mention Instagram (iPhone only app) which Facebook realized and bought.

Before the iPhone, Facebook was just a college students website social program in the same vein as myspace.

My brother is an executive at a large financial institution. He says that meta allows FB ads that sell software and means to hack back accounts and refuses to take them down. They only care about ad revenue. So apologies if I don't give a rip what Mark Z. is whining about.

I don’t ever believe Zuckerberg expresses views based on any moral, ethical or consumer rights principles. His viewpoints are governed by what is the most profitable for his company.

I have no problem with CEOs looking after profits, but don’t act like you’re the champion for all that is good.

Social apps—Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, Threads, and others like them—remain the most popular apps in the App Store for Android and iOS, year after year. They represent the primary purpose why many people even own and use a smartphone. That may not be true for you, it certainly isn't for me, but don't think for a second the anti-Facebook white knighting on here or elsewhere represents anything like a majority opinion. People may think Zuckerberg is a sniveling rat-weasel of a human being, but they use his products in spades.

Perhaps that's sad. Perhaps that's the reality of narcissism as a way of life. We all should be responsible for our own choices, however, and not abdicate that responsibility to a multinational corporation to "protect" us from anything.

100% this.

I've heard people on here suggest Apple might kick Meta apps off the platform, that would absolutely crater the popularity of the iPhone.

Individual freedom > security.

I have zero love for Facebook, though I do use some of their products, but I'm not on Apple's side either.
I don't use ANY F*c*book garbage, and I don't intend to.

But this is a "broken clock right twice a day" situation.

Apple's app store is scummy. I have a right to install any software of MY choosing on MY iPhone, and Apple is interfering with that right. They need to be stopped.

I'm of firm belief that iOS (and iPadOS) should allow app installation aside from just the App Store. I understand the risks — but everyone needs to understand the risks.
I’m also a firm believer that the user should be able to download any purchased apps to their computer easily.

That version is fixed, the previous one was attempting to link through a tracking server - which I've got blocked.

So if you break it down Mark Zuckerberg is only upset because Apple stops them targeting users with advertising.
Colour me bothered.
🤷🏽😂

If you think Meta and Epic and for that matter, the EU, are in the right here, consider this: Apple is providing the infrastructure that makes their businesses function. Do you want solid infrastructure that's well-maintained or do you want ****** infrastructure that falls apart, has potholes, and is covered with billboards?
Well I guess in the end it’s the user deciding what road they go down on. I will probably stay in the city center near town hall :D
Moms and dads who might be vulnerable to third party store scams probably won’t figure them out anyway.

I disagree. Boomers and such did not pick up on Facebook until smartphones made it widely available. And most people at that time who could afford a phone like an iPhone were older adults who aren't in College and High-School. FYI I am a high-school class of 2007 so I was in the very thick of it as a young person when Facebook came out, and furthermore I worked in cell-phone sales at the time too so I sold A LOT of iPhones and a lot of people came solely in to buy it due to the "App Store" and apps like Facebook since there were not many apps as we have today.

What is wrong with you people.

This is called determinism. It might correlate with the rise of the iPhone, I doubt it is because of it. The rise of a smartphone most likely would have happened anyway. And this is assuming that Facebook is big because of smartphones, although that seems – on face value – a likely catalysis for its increased and broad usage.
