Considering he's had many features and fairly considerable awards for his content, together with (medium to) high engagement on surveying and usual content I certainly think many people listen to him.
To say many people spend time watching his content but are then not considering it after that is already a contradiction.
I'm not a fan of his or his other ventures, but you sound like you have a personal problem with him and that's unfortunate but why spread your disdain instead of something worthwhile?
I actually watch his content, but I don’t take his opinions as gospel. 😂

If you look at the sales or marketshare of what he recommends, it’s quite obvious that not many consumers do, or atleast those with purchasing power.

If you believe that to be a “personal problem” or disdainful, well good for you. 🍻

Isn’t he saying the truth?
17 is good for majority of people. I regret not buying it and saving money instead of 17 Pro. I don’t need that stupid LiDAR, not that I can tell that telephoto camera was worth it, the quality is mid at best and crop mode from 24mm is activated whenever there is not enough light.

Regular iPhone is the way to go. Pro doesn’t offer any Pro experience. I don’t even feel this phone has 12 GB of RAM, sometimes it lags so hard that I feel like it is 10 year old phone

That author was brutal 😂

"None of this is to say the Pro or Pro Max are bad phones. These are the best selling phones in the world for a reason."
That quote is hard cope. Where does he even get data? According to Gemini which quotes Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 17 is the best selling phone in 2026.

And yeah, Pro models are actually bad, ugly and hot phones. Also overly expensive. Well, maybe not Pro Max - it is bigger, has bigger battery and chassis, thus doesn’t heat as much as 17 Pro, but the latter is not what I expected when I bought it. It feels like using Galaxy S10+ all over again… I mean “not bad”, but it is bad… As if someone installed old Android on it

Why is it a hard cope? iPhone 17 pro or 17 pro max outsells the iPhone 17, Happens every year. Here is a chart from q4 2025 😂

Counterpoint was for one quarter, there are more than one quarter in a year. 😂

Q2 2026 numbers should be released shortly, and you might be shocked by the results 😳

Ps: 17 pro max is lit, no overheating whatsoever and an outstanding battery life. Maybe get a pro max next time?😊

It doesn't happen every year, Counterpoint's yearly report shows the iPhone 15 topping the table in 2024 and the iPhone 16 in 2025!

Now that happens every year

How can he recommend the 17 instead of the 17 pro
Probably because to most people, its a 'good enough' phone and is £300 cheaper. I think he recommendation is aimed towards the average user. I use a Pro iPhone but I could get by quite comfortably with a standard iPhone now that the feature gaps have closed up considerably of late.

I can pretty much guarantee that the vast majority of consumers do not buy a particular model of phone based on the sales figures of specific global markets. I buy Pro iPhones myself because I can and prefer the mildly better features. However, I am well aware the base spec iPhone 17 is still a very good and capable iPhone for most people should they choose to buy it. That is not an attack on the Pro devices, nor does the fact Pro devices selling better overall mean that the iPhone 17 isn't a good enough iPhone. Lets face it, most people in the grand scheme aren't even using current devices anyway, because smartphones have gotten so good, people now keep phones an average or 3 to 5 years. There is always something slightly better released each year, but thankfully the incremental updates have settled buying habits compared to a decade ago. Thats good for everybody I think.

Your guarentees are appreciated. 😂

Having said that, a quantifiable metric is not a reason for anyone to buy anything, and I never claimed it to be.

A quantifiable metric, merely illustrates one point and that is the quantifiable metric.

In this case it’s that the iPhone pro or pro max sell more than the base iPhone, even more so when you separate the iPhone e sales from said metric, which counterpoint is not doing.

Now in relation to this thread and countering what another member posted; iPhone 17 pro or 17 pro max outsells the base iPhone 17 model. As to why that is?

That is a qualitative metric that can be discussed further. but to each their own. 😂

Personally I’m looking forward to pick up an iPhone 18 Air later this year and those sell much less than the iPhone pro, pro max, or base iPhone.

Buy what you want when you want. 🍻

Care to post the links?
Certainly, here you go. You can see that even in 2023 the regular 14 was also the top seller.

Maybe get a pro max next time?😊
I wanted to do that this time but it is too large for me. I am fond of compact phones, Pro isn't really compact tho.

Despite weighting more for some reason Pro Max feels somewhat better in hand than regular Pro. Well, maybe that's one of those "hidden bonuses" when you buy a PM - it doesn't overheat because physics. More aluminum means better thermal dissipation. Too bad I didn't realize that when I shopped for mine. Well, will probably cope with it. I really hope iOS 27 fixes sluggishness tho

I don’t know if they just counted the regular or the regular and the plus models together as the base model compared to the pro and pro max.

I have both and have to disagree. Though I guess there is some subjective gray area in our disagreements most likely.

17 Pro battery life (I have the e-sim version) is phenomenal. 17's is solid, but it can't touch the 17p's in regular day to day usage.

17 Pro's zoom destroys the 17's. Are there some faults with how the 17p is processing photos, especially zoomed in? Sure. But you're going to get a more clear photo every single time if you're going 4x or more. That's especially beneficial in video, and especially when you have kids/teens regularly doing activities that are not right in front of your face.

Programs close much quicker in the background on the 17 vs. the 17p for me, so I'm not sure on your RAM claim.

And the 17p has always been buttery smooth for me... but honestly so has the 17, so... 🤷‍♂️

My 17p regularly stays cooler than the 17 as well.

Just saying, there are some Pro factors for sure, and not all of them are in your face day to day.

Is it worth it for most people? Probably not? I think we agree there. Especially if you're even remotely budget conscious. But one could argue the 17p has better longevity than the 17 as well, so that extra $300 could pay for itself if you're a person that keeps your phones until you can't any more.

17 pro max is just perfect.

Sorry you decided against it. iOS 27 is buttery smooth even in beta on the 17 pro max. 🍻

There is no overheating with my 17 Pro. I would say it’s the coolest phone I’ve ever used with the best thermal management.

I have also completed Death Stranding and Resident Evil 2 & 3 on it with the chassis being cool to the touch with zero warmth and absolutely no CPU/GPU bottlenecking.

If I've learned anything about YT creators, in tech or fitness or any other space, it's that their recommendations are all over the map and change over time.

Their goal is to get you watching and keep you clicking ... nothing more.

None of them are out there to give you unbiased reviews or suggestions.
If you think that, I'd correct that mistake ASAP.

I somehow regret getting involved in this lol.

My takeaway: 'Based on quantifiable metrics and fundemental laws of quantum physics, the iPhone 15 Pro is a better selling smartphone in my house, as there are two of those and only one iPhone 16 Pro Max and one iPhone 17 Pro'.

As you were 😀 👍

So they counted the Pro and Pro Max separately but put the base iPhone and plus models together, I think that's unlikely!

Back before the plus models were even released the base model was still the best selling iPhone yearly so it's not surprising it still is now.

Interesting. Are you using any case? I have mine in original Apple silicone case, and I find that it might be the culprit.

Did some tuning in Safari Experimental features and disabled some JavaScript bloat here, some Adblock there and it seems to be cooler now, but not ideally cool like my gf’s 17 PM. Btw my battery seems to be fine, still 100% after half a year, but I charge it slowly

I have a TechWoven case and a UAG Civilian case, neither have caused heating issues. I live in a relatively cold country though. The phone should never be hot or warm to the touch. One thing I’d like to point out is that I always use a PS4 controller so my phone is never being held in my hand when I am gaming on it.

Oh, I have UAG Civilian too, didn’t really like it though because it’s kinda plasticky and not like my old Civilian case for 11 Pro, but smh it seems like it actually didn’t heat phone as much. Will probably switch back to it and test, maybe silicone case is the issue.

I mean it is not really overheating but becomes unpleasantly warm to touch, something like 42-45° Celsius in the body and maybe up to 47° in plateau (where all main internals are). So it never shows me the messages like “let the phone cool down” but I’ve had it drop the brightness to minimum a few times.

Well, gotta test more!
