Dang. I had the same problem like that before. But delete, re-add mail accounts and cloud backup fixed it.

87% after 3 hours of usage is pretty good, actually.

Yea, extraordinary good. Non stop music playing.

Well your using it non stop it looks like. Might be why

No Actually i'm not using it non stop that's the whole reason I made this thread. Even when it's sitting with the screen off in sleep mode the usage still says its the same as the standby time. During those 3 hours I was not using it at all.

Beta. That, or Facebook. That app has been known to cause this.

Most likely beta though.

And also, you mentioned that you were getting severe battery drain (along with the usage/standby issue). For 3 hours off the plug and however much usage time, your battery life doesn't seem to be experience a severe draining issue.

Yeah, sounds like some app/process is stuck in one way or another.

Ya, its not too bad but its definitely not as good as it was before this started, especially the standby time. I have heard from numerous people though that Facebook has been known to cause this.

Same thing happened to me yesterday.

A simple restart didn't work.

Today it seems to be fine.

Try draining the battery till it dies and shuts off? That did happen last night. Now that I think of it that might have been the event that fixed it.

co-workers at work that aren't running iOS 7 noticed the facebook app was draining the heck out of their batteries when they did a search in it at least once.

Yep, and even in iOS7 it does it on occasion too. Facebook is the one App I do close regularly as something seems to have changed in it earlier this year. Mt wife and kids also see the same battery draining issue on occasion, be we have never really worked out what causes it and how to replicate it. It's not noticeable, or at least we have not noticed it, on the iPads though.

A few days ago I placed my phone on the couch with at least 85% battery. I forgot about it for a few hours, but didn't have anything running, and when I found it the phone was HOT. It was completely drained to black without enough power to simply boot up - but really really really warm. Never had that happen before and hasn't happened since.

Ya, I actually tried that last night myself. Didn't work still the same thing.

Ya mine will drain pretty fast if its just sitting with nothing running as well but thankfully it hasn't gotten hot yet. That's what I am afraid is going to happen though, that's why i'd like to resolve this issue. I am almost tempted to go back to iOS 6 to see if that fixes it or if it is like someone suggested earlier, a hardware issue.

Yep and hung exchange email acct is well know to cause the stby and use times to be the same.

My apologies if this has been mentioned but here are my recommendations:
1. Hard reset.
2. Some app notifications (like FB are worse on battery life than others)
3. Delete and setup your email account (exchange mail or calendar have caused issues in the past)
4. Reset All Settings or Network Settings (sometimes this will kill any connection that might cause the battery issue)

If not, I would try a clean install.

I think a lot of these issues are related to iCloud, particularly to the changes they're implementing. Especially since some 6.1.x devices are experiencing issues out of the blue as well, and the one thing iOS 6 and 7 have in common for sure is iCloud. I had a problem with the iOS7b3 keyboard halting and not taking any input for 4-5 seconds, then displaying everything I had typed in the meantime within about 1 second and immediately halting again. The way it did that was indicative of a network issue, not, for example, a memory or CPU time problem. I fixed that by disabling Data & Documents sync from iCloud.

I think something about the iCloud implementation glitches and causes relentless network traffic in the background which eats up the battery. It doesn't necessarily mean a lot of data actually being transferred, just a lot of packets.

Sure can and yes it is still the same after all the changes I made. I also got a system monitoring app and everything seems normal when I am not touching the phone the cpu stays at about 2-5% usage which seems pretty normal to me.

I guess it could be just a beta bug, I just find it weird that it popped up out of the blue like that after almost 2 weeks of pretty good battery life. Is it just me, or does anyone else notice these beta's seem to deteriorate in performance over time? And yes before anyone asks, I do perform regular reboots to keep the system fresh. That's the first thing I try when something gets buggy.

Is this the bad battery life you're talking about? I wish I could get this "bad battery life" too! I'm at 40 percent by the time I'm at 4 hours of usage.

I had absolutely terrible battery life when I first installed Beta 3, but after disabling Bluetooth, Passbook, and iCloud Data & Documents, it's been great. Bluetooth in particular...

Sudden bizarre draining can be due to software or hardware.

Software possibilities
1. Poor LTE coverage
2. Bluetooth and/or wifi on but not connected to anything. Or low wifi signal
3. Screen up to full brightness and not locked when not in use
4. Push mail and/or notifications
5. Apps not properly hibernating, especially those that use location services
6. Things like parallax
7. Crappy iOS install, due to it just being buggy or incorrectly installing

If you have eliminated all of these then yes it could be hardware. You can either downgrade to iOS 6 and take it to an apple store for testing or log into your developer portal and contact developer support. They should have access to the iOS 7 diagnostic which will tell them if you have a glitch battery. If you do then I would think they could set up for you to go into a store and get it replaced (in store can't just do it unless they can get a fail read in their diagnostic systems which can't read iOS 7 yet)

Passbook, and iCloud Data & Documents, it's been great.

I turned them off for cellular and that was enough. My guess is that since I'm often in areas with crap LTE it was having to ramp up all the time to keep a strong enough signal for running the updates.

It says its been used for 4 hours but it hasn't been. That was the reason I was concerned, because the usage time claims to be the same as the standby time even when I am not using the phone.

Trust me, 4 hours of use would kill this thing.

Ya I just turned passbook and that icloud data & documents off as well. Thank's for the tip, didn't even realize I could do that.
