Sounds like he needs a 'come to Jesus' moment, so he can see the error of his ways.Hahahaaaa
He had the 8plus and went to the note when it came out...
It’s not a actual problem. The primary number symbol is part of the upcoming dual SIM function enabled with the release of iOS 12.1I have this same problem. I have the Xs Max & bought the unlocked version so it did not come with an actual SIM. I didn't realize that when I first tried to activate it with AT&T & so gave them the IMEI number off the box. Anyway, they deactivated my old sim while doing this & so I had to get a new sim. So, maybe this is the problem. My husband learned from my mistake & just popped his old sim into the new phone. I'll ask him if he gets the Number Changed to Primary message for SMS texts.

That is what I am talking about. You are seeing hints of iOS 12.1I don’t have the symbol thing - I have a line above every response in an sms text that says Number changed to Primary. Every single response. It drives me nuts .

12.1 did NOT fix this issue for me. Hopefully Apple will fix it soon. It’s addressed in 12.1
