Yeah that’s the reason I got it. I’m 48 and yes my eyes love the new big phone and the text and the icons. Glad I’ve got a choice again. Glad your happy with the XS. But definitely glad I got the Max!
Checked it out in the store and all the icons seemed just blown up real big. Doesn’t seem like they’ve squeezed more in, just blown them up to giant size. Is this correct?
If so, it’s fine if your eyesight is shot, otherwise it’s just kinda dumb.
Not native Apple apps.No he has no point at all. Apps will be updated like was the case with the x...it's not going to happen straight away.
jesus it's like some here are new to tech or something...apps don't just magically get updated to fit different size screens. It' certainly doesn't happen by the first day the freaking device is out.

The home screen is no different to any previous plus size models size wise. Obviously they will look bigger on a bigger device. Doesn't take rocket science to know this is what happens.
icon wise they will always have the same amount of apps per row. This was never going to change.
side by side, my 8 Plus and my Max... icons the exact same size.
I think we know whose eyes are bad..
Notch? What notch? I was fully prepared to bitch about the notch but I don't even notice it after a day. I took the XS Max out to the golf course yesterday and ran Track My Golf app, absolutely wonderful out on the course. Easy to read and faceID just makes it ready to look at when you pick up the phone. On the 7+ I either had to set it to never turn off the screen or put up with the fingerprint each time I wanted to use the app.Same here, got the max due to the 6.5 Inch screen size, the XS(5.8 Inch) is too small for me, I had a 7+, so yeah I know 5.5 Inches, but the edge to edge display is nice, and I'm starting to like the Notch.
Cumbersome to type for sure. I never had so many typos and horrifically funny autocorrects before the X! Also, with my contacts in, my close vision is not great (even with multifocal lenses) so the larger screen is helpful with that as well. I'm also sort of a photo geek - helps there too.This. I found the X too narrow when viewing anything. Found it cumbersome to type also cause of the narrow screen. The Max in my opinion is huge but in a good way. Easy to read. Nice big pictures and artwork. As well as easier for me to type with.
Not necessarily. Remember when Apple started changing the App Store with bigger fonts, bigger artwork? Same thing with Apple Music, bigger fonts in some places. Bigger album art etc. Some ppl may have scoffed, and said some of that looked ridiculous. But on the Max it looks beautiful to watch those big graphics etc.Not native Apple apps.
I guess it depends on how you type on a phone. I use two hands, and the X was too narrow for that. I couldn’t use both hands to type on the X without making a lot of mistakes typing. On the other hand, if you do one handed typing. The X is perfect.Cumbersome to type for sure. I never had so many typos and horrifically funny autocorrects before the X! I also have bad eyes. I tend to have to look very closely on a screen to read. So the Max makes it so I don’t have to do that any longer.
Not even the home screen.
The Max is like a balloon version of iOS now. It’s like having the magnifier function all over the screen. Looks stupid to me. It seems like Apple could have done a whole lot more valuable things with all these pixels than just make everything bigger. An iPad is clearly different than a phone in layout and the Max could have some differences than the smaller sized phones. Maybe developer will take up the slack and use the space but Apple often restricts screen dimensions and proportions in their tools to make things easier on developers, meaning developers really can’t.
I’m approaching 60 with eyes just about as bad or worse than any of the wise-cracking commentators here and I still think the Max looked like a cartoon of an iPhone. I want some more UI value in a $1500 phone than magnification.
I guess my 8+ has the same issue but for some reason it really stood out seeing the Max.
