I used Helvetica Neue UltraLight in different sizes and for the elephant I used the magic lasso in PS and made the background transparent. then I just put it on top as an image in geektool do you want the elephant crop that I used?
 
I was gonna ask the same question, I think he has another geeklet on his desktop of part of the elephant, so that it covers up part of the time and looks like it's still part of the desktop bg

That is correct.. it's pretty easy to do.. I can post the cropped elephant I used if you want to use it..
