After I dload and install dockspaces, nothing happens. It wont open.

You can move your dock to the left without anything special, just go into the Dock preferences and choose "Position on Screen: Left"

To make your Dock 2D, it's just a simple terminal command. If it's on the left, however, it auto-switches to 2D anyway.

For 2D on the bottom, use this command in Terminal:

$ defaults write com.apple.dock no-glass -boolean YES
$ killall Dock

There you go.
