I cannot find the original WP but I am 100% sure I got it from here. Sorry.
I had quite a few office apps, photo editing apps, and DVD ripping apps on my dock that I cleaned up using stacks.

FWIW I use Aperture, it's great, smooth and I trust it with my archives more than LR ... ;)

Nice... don't know if I could stare at it all day though LOL..

You stay stacks.... I would recommend to you Dock Spaces, so you can have a dock for say Work and one for DVD Ripping... one for this and one for that... and then you can switch between them by the press of a button and then you can get to those apps... To me.. it's a godsend!!

And.. interesting to know that you use Aperture to... very interesting LOL... I used Lightroom when I used to have a PC in my office at work.. but now I have bought a Mac for there... it's Aperture at home and at work!!

Not sure what the consistent LOLs are for, but I'll bite. ;)

I can and do stare at this all day. The basic premis of a personal desktop is simple, what is easy on my eyes may not be so easy on yours. Frankly, I don't stare at my desktop WP or even my dock all day anyway because I have this thing called work and that requires me to sit in Citrix all day using windows (basically). ;)

Dockspaces sounds great. I will give it a whirl. I use spaces for work and it took only a short while to get used to. I like the idea of keyboard shortcuts to switch between docks.

One would have to understand the architecture behind both applications (LR and Aperture) before judgement is passed. Many people do not understand this nor do they tend to care. Bottom line is while LR does in fact run smoother on many machines, Aperture runs smoothly on mine. However, what will allow me to forgive any hiccups is the way Aperture handles my "digital negatives" in the library. Bottom line is the way LR did it when I ran the beta version was a bit concerning to me.

On my Mac... Aperture runs a lot faster for me.. but hey... debate over...

DockSpaces is like a combination of spaces and docks... You can either have it so you only have 1 Space... and then you can just switch docks via that desktop with Command-1,2,3 etc... or you can have it that in Space 1 you have one dock in Space 2 you have another dock and so on..

Er... I also spend my work day's in VM-Ware... so don't you go telling me about that... It's a figure of speech no??? Or maybe I could have said "I don't know how I could keep looking at that" no??

There was no debate. Although, our intensity about my desktop (along with others seen here) is truly intriguing.

Thanks for the tip on Dock Spaces.

Trying something new (for me, at least; YMMV): used the iTunes Artwork screensave in Preview mode and made a timed screengrab with Grab:

FadetoBlack, one of those album covers ought to look familiar...;)

Cheers guys, this thread has helped me get my MBP desktop looking how I want it....

here's how she's looking

Any suggestions?

I have changed the ical to a blue version, but the moment i quit it turns back to red - anyone got a clue what that's about?

My wife has hijacked my MacBook, and everytime I view these threads I long for October to arrive so that I can pick up a new MB or MBP. She'd freak out if she had to deal with Geektool scripts and changing icons.

Keep up the great work here.
