Guaranteed won't be of any use outside the bubble of the USA.

well it was reported that Apple had also been working with some of the better NHS Hospital Trusts and traditional data firms in England (which on the basis should be transferrable to Scotland, Wales and NI) ... whether it will be as useful as what we'll see in the US with the private providers is a different matter though

Small quibble... It's Johns Hopkins, not John Hopkins.

Must have been fun to be that guy, "it's Johns, not John..." But when you're as rich as that guy was, it probably sailed right past him. He was a great philanthropist, and probably didn't worry much about it.

He got it from his great grandmother, Margaret Johns, who decided to name her son after her maiden name (and who, really, doesn't do that? "hi, my name is McGillicutty Jones"), and Johns' parents passed it down to him.

OK, enough trivia, on with the show!

The result of no more "preexisting conditions" denials

O so many innovations in the medical services field have been stuck in the mud because of the ability of pre-ACA insurance companies to deny people on the basis of preexisting conditions. People were seriously disincentivized to figure out their genetic predisposition to certain conditions, for example, for fear of being denied health insurance, even though that would have given them the ability to forestall or prevent them.

In this case, without protection from being denied coverage due to preexisting conditions, a great many would-be users of some iHealth software would be put off from allowing the collection and dissemination of their health data, even to health professionals who would not share it with health insurance companies.

First, a music act no power user cares about. Now caffeine consumption apps? Massive waste, race to the lowest common denominator. Tell me how the devices will be better. Tell me how they will be more secure. Don't try and snow me with Bono or the Mayo Clinic.

haha, U2 have done a lot for Aids charity, lot more than most "New bands" Health is the most important things in life... What's wrong with improving/monitoring the awareness of someone's health?

Ha, the Mayo Clinic, are one of those companies who peddle garbage about premature ejaculation a completely bogus billion dollar industry, and offer 'cures' for the 'problem'. For example they suggest that it sometimes afflicts people during masturbation. I was going to write a blog post trying to imagine how the conversation would go for a guy to say to his doctor that he has a premature ejaculation problem while masturbating. The mind boggles.

Just in case you think I'm joking...

The primary symptom of premature ejaculation is the inability to delay ejaculation for more than one minute after penetration. However, the problem may occur in all sexual situations, even during masturbation.

The Caffeine consumption chart will prove to be quite useful, especially being able to see its effects on things like blood pressure and quality of sleep.

Why do you feel they should only be targeting the minority of power users as opposed to the larger market and try to appeal to a broader spectrum? They should be.

I'm only interested in a larger screen (5.5") and NFC capabilities for contactless payments. That shouldn't mean that's all they should be working on or doing a spec numbers game for the sake of it, like others. The rest is all welcome additions but not too fussed about... I'm sure others would love this, let them enjoy.

Why is it that everyone seems to count on Apple to revolutionise everything? I mean, what's stopping google or samsung from coming up with a wearable that the masses are going to actually want?

What is it about these companies that prevents them from turning markets upside down or even creating new product categories?

Apple seems to carry the world's expectations on its shoulders.

People keep talking about sleep monitoring with this device. But if you wear it while you're sleeping, when else are you going to charge it? Unless it's got removable batteries (which would be very un-Apple like and inconvenient), I don't see how that's going to work.

You buy a second one.

The magic of iCloud will sync all your data to all your monitoring devices.

I still struggle to equate the two:

Focus on Health Apps.

Mass market America.

Sorry, but the two just don't link up.

This kind of stuff is what sets Apple apart from most other manufacturers.

Apple controls their entire ecosystem and tightly integrates all sorts of services and software... even 3rd-party solutions.

In contrast... the other guys build a phone and puts someone else's operating system on it... and it ends there.

I dunno... do Huawei phones come integrated with the Chinese equivalent of the Mayo Clinic? Do other companies have enough clout to partner with 3rd-party providers?

I hope this doesn't sound fanboyish... but I really admire what Apple is able to do. :D

"Only Apple can do this." ;)

Oh, but they do. The baby boomers are reaching retirement age.

Which population is most in need of medical care, which population has the most money, which population will go out of their way to remain healthy?

This whole health direction is pretty weird.

What are they trying to do..? Integrate with the clinics data systems?
If this is the direction they are going, this will never succeed.

Maybe they will partner up with some of the medical clinics in the US, and maybe there will be a couple more in some countries in europe, but that's definitely not a worldwide feature that every Apple user would enjoy.

Investing that much time in such a specific app for such a low number of users is a weird direction for Apple...

Past experience.

I'm not saying that others can't innovate or that Apple most definitely will present something innovative today. I just think that past experience has shown that Apple seems to have a company culture geared towards being innovative. I have been working in big technology companies (market leaders in their respective fields) for over 15 years now, and I can tell you that innovation heavily depends on the company culture. It doesn't just come from people being told "Come up with something new, or else!" Apple appears to have the right kind of culture.

Also the type of innovation matters. I always think of how Bill Gates presented a tablet PC many years ago. Or Google has been working on Google Glass. Samsung and others have released smartwatches. Blackberry and other companies released smartphones before the iPhone came out. All of these products were or are in some way "innovative", but Apple innovates towards usability. That tablet PC Bill Gates showed in the year 2000 was simply not usable for people outside of the geek crowd for example. So now I am expecting Apple to again take something that already exists in some barely usable shape and to make it extremely useful for me. I can't imagine life without my smartphone and my tablet anymore, and who knows - Apple might have a product on their hands that will reach the same status in three years. How many other companies have provided this kind of innovation over the last 10 years?

So strange that the Mayo Clinic disagrees and some of the folk names from WWDC will be up on stage proving otherwise.

Everyone can take what they want from Healthkit, or leave it be and use other features. Having worked in part with telehealth - this is a huge step forward.

Im a huge fan of them myself :D

These companies have billions to play with but still can't seem to put together a product the way apple can. Or build hype for a product or service.

There must be witchcraft at play in Cupertino
;)

So the keynote will have U2, Mayo Clinic, some fashion people... What else, are Sansung people going to make a cameo too?
