You're absolutely right. Some of these guys are arrogant snobs and just want to justify their purchase by "laughing" at the supposedly pathetic fools who dare compare their ordinary MacBook to a pro. Truth is that is a rediculous misconception based on outdated models (ibook vs PowerBook). I've owned both the MacBook and the pro. The pro has better grahics, better sound, keyboard, ports and overall better capabilities but to think for one second that Apple uses special parts with extra quality control is retarded.

It goes both ways. Many reg Macbook owners are so defensive of any critisism of their laptop they make stuff up. There are major differences between the consumer grade reg Macbook and the Pro. They just like to think they have a 13" Pro when they don't. Whatever makes them feel better about their purchase I guess. Both are nice, but the Pro is much better. Yes you do pay for it. To single out one person or group is wrong when more than one person or group is bashing the other.

Well.... first Apple itself advertises the MacBooks in the unibody videos.. not the MBPs!
Second.. Apple cuts itself a very very low margin in the MB as compared to the MBP since the MB sells way more than the MBPs
Third.. for something that has helped Mac sales bounce exponentially.. anyone would expect them to be more critical of the MB as compared to any other Mac!
Fourth.. I only ever heard of Aluminum as Al, dunno if they are using isotopes! As far as innards both use same chipsets manufactured by same companies!

I wouldn't read too much into them doing that. They sell more MB's because it is cheaper (primary reason) so of course they will highlight that one a little more.

I'm sympathetic to your point, but no one is making things up - we're giving reasoned arguments.

The MBP has a superior screen, a better GPU, and more ports. Everything else is pretty much the same (save for size). Whether or not it's "better" really depends on what you use it for. In other words, there is nothing "Pro" about a MBP when you use it for word processing. Likewise, there is nothing "Pro" about a MB if you're doing intense video editing.

I don't think anyone is debating whether or not both machines are good. Anything that costs over $1000 is presumably a good machine (yes, even a Dell). We're debating whether or not it makes sense to say that one machine is better than the other without considering what the machine is going to be used for. As I have said multiple times, the 'best' machine is the one that suits your needs.

That isn't some attempt at justifying the purchase to myself... it's simple common sense.

Ok, what you just said I now have a different outlook on you. I am sorry if i said anything towards you and I hope we all can move on. You are correct, both computers are nice and I am glad I made the switch. I got upset at a comment you made that it was something like us Macbook people have low standards and none of us can afford the MBP. Some may be true, the MB is cheaper but also but you can't group everyone in that group. I tried to justify buying a MBP, but I couldn't. Everything I do I can probably do on a 200.00 Acer computer, but I wanted to get away from Windows and I thought the Macbook was the best route for me. It would be stupid and a waste of my money IMO to buy a Pro just for Emailing, surfing the net, very little photo editing (just resizing a pic, or changing the contrast and so on) and Itunes for me. Wouldn't you agree?
The Pro is a wonderful laptop and I never said it's a Mini pro, because it's not.
Again I am sorry if I said anything mean or rude to you and any other Pro users.
We all have Macs and I am again glad at making the switch.

And I agree with you also and saying "the 'best' machine is the one that suits your needs." is the best way to go. I have no problem if someone wants a Pro just to have a Pro. It's your money and your computer, have fun with it.
I hope we can all cool off now and move on. I have learned so much from this site and I am very glad there is a site like this where we can help each other. :D
So to the OP, I hope we didn't scare you off. you will find a lot of good info here.

I have a 2.4 Ghz MBP. I find it a tad bit heavy compared to the MB. I had to get the MBP just for firewire. If you dont need firewire and want a more portable lighter laptop..the MB is your choice (its cheaper as well).

With the recent update to the aluminum MBs...not sure why some MBP owners think that MBs are cheap substandard...now POS Dells are cheap & substandard...the MBs are awesome laptops that are a great value.

I purchased the 2.4 Macbook Pro just about a month ago and I really like it. The two main reasons I chose the MBP over the MB were the 9600 graphics card and the larger screen.
I use the Adobe Creative Suite programs for school and personal art, and do some gaming so the graphics card is put to use. I prefer having the larger screen for better window allocation.
The performance of the 9600 card is very nice, but I have also noticed that the 9400 card can produce some amazing graphical results in itself. If I am playing World of Warcraft, even with the visual settings fairly high, I experience no drop in performance.
I would say go with the 2.4 MB and upgrade RAM and such if needed if the screen size, 9600 card, and extra ports are not needed.
