I just ordered this one for my MBA 13 Ulti:

Best case ever with magnetic closure - stylish, high quality and cool

Cost: 186 quality dollars ;)

Any idea where i can get a cheaper version of this bag? This bag fulfill all of my requirement such as hidden magnet closure and leader sleeve but it is really pricy and over my budget.

Just bought this:

Macbook Air Case

Tough memory type foam and tight fit. Zipper designed so MBA does not come in contact.

I like it so far, feels really well protected.

Details:
Low Resilience Polyurethane (LRPu) Technology
Robe protection thickness 5MM
Outside material : jersey fabric
Inside lining : jersey fabric
Inner lip for maximum protection

While they look like your typical, ineffective neoprene laptop sleeves, the BE.EZ LA Robe sleeves truly offer the best protection of any sleeve, including the sleeves with a semi-rigid shell. Their memory foam stuff is amazing. If you hit the sleeve with your fist, or press down on it with your thumb, the laptop inside would never feel it.

I'll probably get 2 different sleeves: a "pretty" Etsy sleeve of some sort, and the BE.EZ. LA Robe. It depends on which bag I use to carry it.

For a 13 incher following the OP's target use, there's a lot to be said for InCase's Nylon Sleeve or Nylon Sling Sleeve, even though it's a MBP design. It's a do-it-all, which for some can make up for its spendy-ness. Despite being made for MBP, the MBA is nicely nestled in its faux fur chamber.

You can carry it as a sleeve with it's handles inserted away from sight and it's shoulder strap removed. Or not. That is double duty. Both have gusseted pockets outside that are flat when empty, like cargo shorts pockets, so it maintains a sleevy feel; yet ready to put a charger or/or drive into. Protection is good for the active user who doesn't drop theirs down the stairs or throws it around on a sidewalk. Strap it on for biking across the campus. Stow a magazine or paper in the outside pocket.

The Sleeve version, versus the Sling Sleeve, has similar outside pockets, yet the former's accessibility into them is better. I feel like they streamlined (cheapened) the Sling Sleeve to perform similarly as the Sleeve, but made some alterations in the name of cost savings. Nylon Sleeve has only two colors, while Sling Sleeve comes in more colors and black.

There's more, but I don't want to belabor the point. Check it out in the Apple Store.

Here's one and the other:

There's no place for accessories in most sleeves, since sleeves are usually designed to fit inside a larger case with the pockets you describe. The booq Vyper is the best protection I've ever seen in a notebook sleeve. In my opinion, it offers far better protection than any neoprene case, the zippers never come into contact with your MBP, and it looks great!

How would you describe the protection of the vyper vs the waterfield sleeve?

I am paranoid now since my previous macbook got a dent while inside a case while inside my backpack. I just set it down kind of hard, but my backpack did not have extra padding on its bottom. Didn't think I needed it since I had a sleeve.

In my opinion, it's the most protective case on the market. It doesn't look fancy, and it's not the thinnest, but if your primary concern is the protection of your new MBA, this is the case to get.

I don't plan on having a new laptop messenger bag to hold my MBA. My messenger bag, which is fantastic, wasn't really meant for a laptop. This case is perfect for me since it offers amazing protection, even in a normal canvas messenger.

Ok, with the discount code it ended up being $74 for the black 13" sleeve. I'm pumped! (so long as the wife doesn't find out the price, lol)

Thanks for your help, hawk.

I'm interested in getting the mintcase sleeve too, but I can't figure out where to enter the promo code. Can someone who purchased that sleeve let me know?

This is my one that I use with my 13 air. I love it although it was quite pricey.

Optmi,
I've been looking at wool sleeves (untype.com or byrdandbelle) and leather sleeves for the last few days. I'm wondering if the wool sleeve is flimsy (i.e. without the mba in there, does it flop over like a piece of clothing? Or is it relatively stiff?). I'd just like to gauge how strong it is against bumps / drops.

Thanks.

I would like to know this too :D

Sorry, I keep meaning to do a review and everytime I get home, I just end up crashing on the sofa with netflix on....:)

The wool felt used in my untype sleeve is not floppy. In fact, the felt is pretty thick, I'm pretty sure it is that way for protection purposes. I know the ones you're talking about when it is too floppy, but the untype one is pretty good. It's not like you can roll it up if that makes any sense.

Anyway, they seem to have that summer promo code (Summer11) still open so I'm thinking about getting one of the felt-only straps (the horizontal load one) for my wife's new 11 inch (provided we don't take it back for the 13....she's already starting to hunch/squint) :)

I got the InCase neoprene one from the Apple Store.

So far I love the snug fit and the lining on the inside. Seems like good high quality material. I have kept my receipt and the little plastic cover it came with in case it decides to rip. Another poster mentioned that he had to bend his Air to get it in -- it takes some breaking in but after a while the top half folds out pretty easily and keeps shape pretty well. What I like about this design is that it doesn't expose a side or any part of the Air like some of the other sleeves that insert easily.

While the envelope sleeves are OK, they tend to be too much of a novelty. In practice, I doubt I want to take time closing them up and doing buttons. Sliding my Air into the InCase is quick, once you break in the flap on the top.

As a college student, I frequently put my laptop in a backpack along with other things, which is why I elected to go with a sleeve. If you only carry a laptop around and that's it, you may be better off getting a full-on case with the ability to carry accessories. The nice thing about the Air is that you can go a full day of use (with the 7-8 hour battery life). So that's why you don't really need the accessories (the charger) all the time.
