Anyone who bought MBA recently (2014 haswell refresh), could you check the "about this mac" please?

Does it show 2013 mid or 2014 early?

Thanks.

It varies - there is thread about it here on macrumors forum, just search.

Mine says Early 2014. Got it for only $708 after taxes!:apple:

I'm not sure, but I know the i7 used in the MBA for 2014 wasn't updated and is the same one used in the 2013 model.

I think only the i5 was refreshed for 2014 and the price dropped by $100.

I bought an 13" i5 MBA last week and it says "Mitte 2013" (mid 2013 in Germany). When I asked the sales guy he said that since its basically the same model as the 2013 one they didn't bother to change the "about mac" section. It also shows an i5 1.4 Ghz, so it has to be the 2014 model I guess...

So I just bought (May 6th) a new 13" MBA and it shows "Mid 2013". I just noticed it about a half hour ago and called Apple Care immediately to make sure I got the right MBA. Their explanation is that this is the latest one, including the minor processor bump. I don't know that I am really satisfied with this answer, as there was just an update to the MBA line (both 11" & 13") on April 29th. So it SHOULD reflect the fact that it is a 2014 model.

OMG, why do you so care about that? is it 1.4 GHz CPU? then it is 2014 model. problem solved, case closed.

BTW the date does matter.

The store I stopped at had both the older and newer models in stock.

It matters for two reasons:

1. I just ordered it, and want to make sure I got the newest laptop (which is why I waited until after the refresh on Apr 29th to order mine.

2. Resale value. If the laptop is showing a year older than it actually is, it will lower the value when it comes time to sell and upgrade.

If it is 1.4 i5 it is newest.

The 2013 and 2014 models have the same model number. Only the speed changed.

Why can't people look at the box when they buy something?

For the 11"

MD11LL/A and MD712LL/A are the 2013
MD711LL/B and MD712LL/B are the 2014

For the 13":

MD760LL/A and MD761LL/A are the 2013
MD760LL/B and MD761LL/B are the 2014

Cue inevitable rant about sneaky Apple labeling the box with one thing and putting something else in it.

This!

I just reading this as " I have no idea wtf I bought so I'm going to ask people things that I could answer myself in Google in 30 seconds. Also if I don't have the newest it's worthless, even though i will not be able to tell ANY difference between the two if I held them with out being told."

Difference in the 'about this mac' might hint the difference in logic board.

did you get some sort of discount?

Best Buy had it on sale for $50 off. But I found an open box model in excellent condition. So it started at $800ish. Then I had the student discount coupon for an additional $150 off any Macbook. So... $650ish plus tax came to $708 and change! :D

so best buy honors the student discount? Do I need the coupon? I am a student and prefer not to drive to our apple store. It is on the other side of town and I live 2 minutes from best buy.
