Anyone who bought MBA recently (2014 haswell refresh), could you check the "about this mac" please?

Does it show 2013 mid or 2014 early?

Thanks.

Mine says it is mid 2013, but CPU is i5 1.4GHz (8GB/256GB). Chatted to Apple support, see the answers:
Guennadi:
how is it possible for 2013 model have 1.4GHz CPU

Jennifer:
I’m seeing that this Mac is configured to order, it is not the standard model.

Guennadi:
which is available only for 2014 model

Jennifer:
Whoever ordered it from Apple officially has it customized and configured to certain specifications.

Jennifer:
Apple offers the ability to customize certain specifications on the Mac and they’ll create it for you.

Jennifer:
You can opt to get a different hard drive, RAM, or even processor. They’re considered upgrades on the Mac at time of purchase in which case if you say you want more RAM or a fast processor you can get the Mac customized and Apple will make it.

I think she is wrong, probably Apple has issues decoding model name from serial number. The box was shipped 5/5 from China to retailer, I got it 5/21. My major concern that it affects resale value of my MBA. BTW - http://www.chipmunk.nl/ and http://www.appleserialnumberinfo.com/ say it is 2013, CPU i7 1.7GHz.

If it is 1.4 i5 it is newest.

I have a 1.7GHz i7 13" MBA. The 11" MBA is the only new model that is actually showing "mid 2014"... which is odd because they updated the 13" models the same day (29 Apr 2014). Hence my confusion.

It seems that 2014 base configuration MBAs come with new logic boards, while AOS put old logic boards into the customized versions.

I just got my new 2014 MacBook Air 11" today and it is showing "Mid 2013" so not all 11" Air's are correct either. I'm going to be calling Apple today or Monday! Like some of the others have said, the only reason I'm worried about this is because it will affect the resell value.

Do any i7 models show 2014? I'd think not since the i7 wasn't actually updated, but just curious if anybody has one that says 2014.

your serial number is showing. should take it off.

I have the same problem as most of the others here. I ordered on May 25th, a Mid-2014 11" customized MacBook Air. It shows up as a Mid-2013 model. I called Apple about this yesterday and they gave me three options basically...I took option 3, which I'm still not 100% satisfied about.
Option 1: I send my MBA back and wait about two weeks to get another one(which means I would be computer-less the entire time).
Option 2. Order a new MacBook Air(by spending another $1400) and once I get that one send my original one back in and get a refund on it that way I'm not computer-less.
Option 3. This one I had to ask about. I asked for a gift card to the Apple Store to compensate for the loss in value from my computer saying Mid-2013 when I go to sell it to the next person. I got basically a 20% off coupon, with catches. It can't be used for the Mac App Store, or iTunes, AND it can not be used at an Apple Retail Store, you have to place your order over the phone. However I found a way around the Apple Retail Store part. I used my 20% off coupon to buy a iPad Mini Retina. I wanted it the same day, didn't want to pay for shipping and wait for it in the mail. So I called up Apple Sales(which you also have to do to place an order with the coupon. You can't simply enter the promo code when checking out) and ordered my iPad and used the In-Store Pickup Option. So I was able to place my order with the sales department and go pick it up at my local retail store in about an hour.

So after this long post, my point is don't settle. Either return, get a refund, or PUSH and get a coupon like I did. I had no idea they even offered something like that but I figured I had nothing to loose in asking and I ended up getting at least some kind of peace with the situation.

I hope this helps some of you.

I wonder why they won't release SMC update for all the 2013 MBAs as the only difference between 2014 and 2013 models is in firmware.

Your situation is a little bit ridiculous but it is warranted.

If you were willing to sacrifice the manufacturing year by getting an older model it would benefit you greatly to purchase a refurb with better specs for less money.

That is why I can see you guys getting upset. Why settle for an older model when the new ones are on the shelf?

I just got my 2011 Macbook Air replaced with a 2014 i7/8GB/128 Macbook Air 13'' and I sure hope that this is not an issue with my order.

I probably wont make a stink about it but ill definitely call and ask them why this occurred.

I wetn to the Apple store downtown Montreal this afternoon to get an 'ultimate' MBA 2014 13" i7 8gb 512G, They confirmed to me by phone before that they had the new model in stock.
But as soon I started the MBA, it show '2013' , sorry not what I bought.
Put it back in the box and got my money back 10 minutes later.
I read here and on apple forums stories about 2014 laptop still labeled 2013.

I want the 2014 one, the .../B part number, is that complicated ? show long should I have to wait until apple flush it's old stock ?

Does ordering it from the web will change something ?

There is virtually no difference between the 2013 and 2014 models. The i5 processor in 2014 is 100Mhz faster. However, 2013 had faster SSD write speeds.

Mine says early 2014, however i would gladly trade slight faster clock speed for a faster SSD.

2013 does not have faster SSDs.

There is no 2014 i7 CPU, so why did you return it? If you want i7 MB air - you buy 2013 model.

I know the 2014 i7 is mostly the same as the 2013 i7, but yet, there is a 2014 model with it's own model number, some people here show some 'early 2014 i7' picture.
I heard of little fixes here and there (logic board ...), better SSD, better battery life ...
Even if it's fore better resel value, I don't want an old 2013 stock.
(B&H Photo Video in NY has both 2013 and 2014 in stock, the 2013 in 100$ less than the 2014).

But even the new part numbers are coming with a logic board that isn't changed. Shows Mid 2013 in About this Mac, even if it's a new part number. So Apple probably has a mix of both in the factory and I doubt there's really any difference, it's all rumors.

I ordered a CTO 2014 13"t MBA with the 1.4GHz processor and even though it's the processor that can only exist in the 2014 model, it shows Mid 2013 in About this Mac.

She seems confused.

Of course you can customize the MBA, but you can choose only between 2 CPUs and 2013 model didn't have the option for a 1.4Ghz CPU (only 1.3Ghz i5 and 1.7Ghz i7). Yours is the 2014 model, but produced in 2013, if that makes sense. Or maybe Apple just took some left in stock 2013 models selectively (or 2013 motherboards), and modified the firmware/SMC on them to meet the specs of 2014 models. They could do that to all 2013 models via software update, but it wouldn't do any good for sales of 2014 MBAs.

I had the same issue. Bought the BTO i7/8GB/256GB model. Not only the SSD is slower with SanDisk, it shows Mid-2013. Can't really do anything :(

I still prefer Apple Macs but they seriously need to get their act together. I have already ditched my iPhone a year ago and iPad recently.

Those who have 2014 models (with higher clockrate, doesn't matter what it says in "about mac"), please run sysctl -n machdep.cpu.brand_string command and report back the results.

This will tell the exact model of CPU chip being used so we could tell for sure if it's the same like for 2013 models or not. :)

I know you asked for 2014 models.

Here is what is in my mid-2013 (according to about mac)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4650U CPU @ 1.70GHz

So I would assume the CPU is no different than the 2014 model CTO

Actually I found out that generally second to last digit is larger by 1 for 2014 models CPU name. It does suggest for me that the chip itself is the same for both models, but it's hard to say for sure as it could as well be marginally more efficient than the previous one. (hence the similiar TDP)

13-inch, Mid 2013,
I ordered via Apple online store and rec'd it on June 6.
Forget specs, its like buying a new car and getting DMV documents showing it is last years model - not good
I contacted Apple Sales Support and they say it this will be corrected "shortly", but not sure what "shortly" means to Apple.
I suggest that others contact Apple Support to echo this problem, this type of momentum may prioritize a fix.
