Silver. Loving the design ever since they released the unibody MacBook back in 2008 (which I could not afford back then). All-time classic, never gets old. The following (including current) designs are all incremental updates of that version.
Also, when I first saw a Space Grey MBP in 2016, I thought it's a bit towards purple, and that would bother me all the time...

The classic silver/black, no question. Just timeless, the other options look a bit cheap in comparison.

Decades old Silver VS a few year old Space Grey, yet most people still prefer Silver.

Silver is clearly the winner. SG looks solid, professional, serious, chic. But the Silver is more inviting, clean, bright, lasting.

I went with the silver M1 MBA as well. Classic look that has some nostalgia to it. Feel like the silver MacBooks will never not look good.

This thread started before the M1 MBA existed but still very applicable as the same three colours are still on offer. Please correct me if this is not correct.

In any case I chose silver for my new M1 MBA last month. My previous laptop was a 2013 MBP and was also silver.

Nice classic clean look in my opinion. Not a big fan though of the shiny Apple logo. I preferred the lit up one on my MBP.

I chose the space gray for my M1 Mac. Truly one of the best decisions I have made for my first M1 Mac.

Since we're bumping this thread - I also grabbed a space gray M1. I wish it was darker but it's more than just silver, which is what I really wanted. It was a tough call between gold and gray. What I really wish, though, was that they had released these in the iMac style because the blue, pink (red), and orange iMac colors are absolute ?

In the middle of several books.

If a dark orange was offered, I would grab that day one. :D

IIRC there was a poll for this and it showed pretty much space gray > silver > gold (where '>' means more popular).

I could live with any of the 3 and depending on the lighting my preference changes. The most neutral of all 3 is silver.

My MacBook Air is Gold, which to be honest, wasn't my first choice.

However, it was a refurb and the only one available in the configuration I wanted, so I compromised on the colour. I have a black hard case on the MacBook and it actually looks really cool. Black and Gold goes together better than I thought.

I prefer the look of Silver but Space Grey hides prints and smudges on the trackpad better.. I am OCD and constantly wipe down the trackpad.. Silver looks like a hot mess much faster than Space Grey does, to my eyes at least.

So OCD being a factor, I went Space Grey with my M1 MacBook Air..

This is the opposite of my experience. Space gray shows fingerprints, dust, and scratches more than silver.

Maybe. I'm not seeing it on my current silver machine and I do remember noticing it on my space gray.
Could also be that my last Silver model was missing some type of coating applied at the factory to prevent it.. Maybe when I spring for the 14" I'll go back to Silver as I really do like the look of it better..

I'm two weeks short of "celebrating" 10 years of silver MacBooks. +6 years of my wife owning one. So let's make that 16 years of usage. My observation is, that those old classic 13" boys seem to be more durable. My 1yo silver MBP has more, and much deeper, scratches than those two 6yo (one still active) we own. And that while it has been used far less intensive (no travelling, for example). Different grades of aluminium, I guess. Anyway, I plan to upgrade again no earlier than 2026 (fingers crossed), and hope silver with (tiny) black bezzel is still around then...

Could you please tell me more about this hard case?
I also have a gold refurb- it would not have been my first choice of colour, however I am beginning to like it?
Certainly, I got it from the Apple Store: https://www.apple.com/uk/shop/product/HP9Z2ZM/A/incase-13-hardshell-case-for-macbook-air-2020

It's good quality and doesn't leave finger prints all over it like other hard cases I had before this, and it hasn't shown any signs of cracking (again like other hard cases of mine in the past).
