If you read the comments posted just before yours it says that he was tricked and the person didn't reply his messages today and so he didn't get it nor did he pay $700

Lol, sorry for not reading through the thread , i just saw the OP and was amazed.

Too bad OP, but when it seems too good to be true it usually is(wise words of Mickey Bricks :p)

Yes, you guys were right. Last night I decided to meet up with the guy today after his work. I sent him a text message, asking him to send me the address where we would meet as well as the serial number of the computer. Since then, I have not heard a word from him. I sent two text messages and called several times during all day. No replies. I guess it was a scam, or possibly stolen goods.

Sucks big-time right now. But whatever, it's only a computer. I will save some money by not buying it. I will be on the lookout for similar deals, if I don't find any - brand new Ivy Bridge MBA it is (as soon as it's released). :)

No worries! At least you didn't get ripped off with a fake or a stolen machine!

Hi guys, after I realized this deal was a scam, I decided to wait for the Ivy Bridge MBA instead. However, I have not been able to resist watching the used market for these computers. Hence, I've found two additional offers, one of which I hope will become mine.

I'm looking at one of these two:

13" MBA Ultimate (256GB, i7) two weeks old, great price. Almost never used.

13" MBA Entry level (128GB, i5) unopened, brand new in box. Same price as the one above, in my area.

I plan on making the purchase tomorrow. Hopefully the story won't repeat itself.

...Well, none of the above sellers wanted to sell me their computers, after I asked them for the serial numbers and copies of the receipts from the original purchase. This leaves me wondering, how many of the used ads for computers out there are actually scams, or stolen goods et.c. Either way, I'm now sick and tired of trying to purchase used computers.

I spent a few hours browsing online and found that a few of the large suppliers offered a 10% discount on the base MBA 13" here in Sweden. However, the computer was not in stock in these stores, anywhere in my city. The only option was purchasing online - which I was not too interested in, or travel for several hours. I gave it a last shot, by visiting a mall nearby, where an electronics-shop actually had several MBA's in stock, but according to their web-site they did not offer the discounted price. However as I entered the shop, it turns out that they actually did. Needless to day, I have now purchased a 13" MBA with the i5 processor and 128GB SSD. I will pick it up in a few hours!

So happy! This will complement my mid 2011 iMac perfectly! :)

Yes, yes, I know there's an Ivy Bridge model coming out soon - however, I will be upgrading from an old MacBook Pro from 2007, this computer will offer twice, if not 3x the performance of my MBP, while being almost 50% lighter. Moreover, the i5 computers have proven to be very reliable, and as I will be getting one at this point - I think all (potential) problems will be solved. Now, is there any way to see, without opening the box, if the computer is equipped w/ the Samsung SSD? For example the serial number?

No, from what I can tell, there is no way to know from outside what brand of SSD it has. However, since you are upgrading from a 2007 MacBook Pro, you won't notice the difference between the Toshiba or the Samsung. Both will blow away that old hard drive.

That said, if you do later want a boost, you can look into getting a SATA III blade SSD from OtherWorldComputing. They will run nearly twice as fast as the SSDs in the 2011 MacBook Air. For the past year, nothing I have run is so disk intensive where I feel the need to update the SSD.

When I list on places like Craig's List I like to save potential buyer's time & trouble. I indicate where I got the item, warranty status, if it's a phone I offer to meet at the carrier's store to verify transfer.

When I'm buying, people who indicate such info in their ads get my response first.

well, it's all about getting lucky on craigslist... i got my 11' air brand new, sealed, i5, 4gb ram, 128ssd for $900.. seller wanted $950.. he won it at a contest as well..

So what if it's stolen. Once you purchase it the Mac legally becomes yours regardless of whether the previous owner stole it or not. And the cops can't do anything about it.

no.. possession of stolen goods is still a crime regardless if you bought it or it was given to you.. especially if you knowingly knew it was stolen.. also if the owner reports it to apple, good luck trying to get warranty repair on it.. serial number will be flagged and when you turn it in for repairs, you might not get it back..

Nah, Apple don't track allegedly stolen products.

Congratulations on your purchase, I hope you enjoy your MBA for as long as you enjoyed your MacBook Pro! :)

They won't track it but they will cooperate with law enforcement and hand over the personal info in your itunes account if requested. Ignorance is not an excuse, the police will take the computer if it's stolen.

Having worked Apple Retail I know for a fact they don't flag stuff. We used to get so many calls from people wanting us to flag their device by it's serial.
