Lol, no worries, thanks much!
You are welcome! I too have been looking for information on refresh rates for monitors that have a resolution less than 4k and 6k. The only info for the Apple specs for the M1 Macs is basically "60 Hz for 4k & 6k."

Which is nice, those are generally top of the line monitors and it is good to know how well those types of monitors will perform. But it wasn't too helpful for people that have monitors with lower resolutions (like me) who want to see how well they will work. As a result of this discussion, I was able to confirm that I could get 144 Hz at 3440 x 1440 on my M1 MBP, so I should be able to get the same with an M1 mini, or whatever other potential Apple Silicon desktops are released that are in my price range.

Agreed, I can't seem to find the answer to " Does the LG 49" look like the 2560 x 1440 on a 5k iMac in Low Resolution mode (thinking text crispness/clarity, etc..)?"

Trying to find/visualize an equivalent of what I can expect it to look like in person....

I'd say keep checking the forums, and look at any discussions related to M1 and monitors, even if it doesn't look specifically like the answer you are interested in. That is what I did, and I eventually found an answer to my question.

There is also an article posted here at MacRumors, and other sites, about Ultrawide updates/fixes in Big Sur 11.2. This may be helpful?

Plus there is a lot of good M1 discussion here. :)

I’ve had a bunch of issues with the LG ultra fine screen with my M1 Mac Mini, but also 16” MBP.

I use a top spec USB3 or Thunderbolt cable and it won’t display 5k wide resolutions unless I do one thing:

Downgrade Display port v1.4 to Display Port 1.2 on the monitor.

Then the display seems to work (albeit without HDR support or the ability to select different refresh rates).
the 1.2 won't support HDR, the LG 49" is over $1.2K, the HDR 10 may be worth $300.
I am now on 11.2 beta, it seems stable as long as I set the display to not turn off, and manually turn the monitor off, also turn on the monitor first then wake up the laptop, everything is OK.

11.2 doesn't solve anything.

Why worse. For me the same. All works great if I remember to power on every time first the monitor and then exit the sleep of the Mac mini.
Yes, I power on my monitor first, then wake up the M1, but the M1 still wakes up with HDR unchecked, and resolution reset to default sometimes, I have to manually change it back. I remember 11.1 didn't do that anymore.

Here is the reason I chose to have 3008x846@60, it is HIDPI, the resolution is actually 6016x1692.
My surface book 3 can do 5120x1440 with 150% zoom perfectly, but it still looks slight worse than M1 with 3008x846@60,

On my Macbook Air M1, I'm able to get the full 5120x1440 @ 120.00hz on my 49" Samsung CRG9 using a USB-C to DisplayPort cable (8k rated Cable Matters brand from Amazon) and SwitchResX. In display prefs, the resolution is not an option in the dropdown when holding option, only SwitchResX shows it as of Big Sur 11.1. After sleep, however, it sometimes doesn't wake the monitor back up and it's a game of unplugging and toggling the monitor on / off at the moment.

I guess the font is blurry with 5120x1440 @ 120.00hz,right?

Hi,

I've received today a MBP 13" with M1, and I've tested it with the 49WL95C-W screen. With the supplied USBC cable, changing the DP version to 1.2 and pressing control key I was able to select the 5120x1440 resolution on the screen, and the images/letters seems sharp, however, I've an issue with the brightness of the screen, that is more noticeable when I'm reading a webpage with white background, when I'm moving up or down, the white goes darker or brighter (like if the screen changes the bright, but is not set for auto brightness.

I've tried with several laptops (Intel 2017 MBP and a HP i5 with Windows), and it happens the same to them, but even more noticeable. This is not happening with a Mac Desktop with a Radeon RX580 connected through Display Port.

When using with the HP or the 2017 MBP I thought it was due to the Intel graphics not being able to handle the resolution, but that should not be a problem with the M1.

Did anyone experimented this issue? I'm still able to return the screen to Amazon, but I'm not sure if is an issue with the screen, the configuration/drivers or the cable...

I've also tried an external USBC multi-adapter, with a DP output, and is not working, it tries a couple of times to show an image, but after that, it just goes dark and the screen says "no input detected".

Regards

Edit: I've found a setting in "General" called "Smart Energy Saving" that was setup to "Low" but seems that was the culprit for my brightness issues... I've disabled it and seems is gone even in the HP Laptop. Quite annoying that even if you setup the auto brightness to off, this setting changes automatically the brightness in such a random way...

Not sure if it's helpful to those here but the M1 Macbook Pro 13 works with the Dell U4919DW
I use the monitor with two Macbook Pros and one keyboard/mouse with the built in KVM.
With Mac->USB-C->USB-C->Monitor I get 5120x1440 resolution and RGB color @60Hz.
With Mac->USB-C->Displayport->monitor I get 5120x1440 resolution but YPbPr @60Hz. In this mode the colors appear to be less vibrant but is for sure usable.
No SwitchResX needed.

EDIT: It appears it's full 444 YPbPr.
The test patterns look identical between my M1 MBP in YPbPr and 2018 15in Intel MBP w/Radeon in RGB

I just returned LG 49" after using it for 2 months, Amazon is really generous for the return.
I went back to my ViewSonic 43" 4k. I found out the vertical space is more important than the horizontal space. 32:9 is not practical for watching video either. Not to mention all issues with Mac.

I tried a 34" UltraWide last week and loved it - once you're used to the stepdown in resolution, its incredible to be able to have so many windows/apps open at once. Or to just have a single app in the middle and a nice backdrop either side. Very calming and distraction-free if that makes sense! I only do photo and video stuff for personal use, so the resolution isn't an issue.

I'm sold on an 49" LG screen now, but I noticed Amazon in the UK doesn't seem to be selling any just now. I wonder if they're just in short supply or its switchover time for new model lines.

Guess I need to be patient!

Looks like the refreshed model is due out in a couple of weeks - 49WL95C-WE so I just need to be patient!

Will sell my 24" Ultra Fine in the meantime.

Found an LG 49WL95C-W and it should be here by the end of the week. There seem to be 49WL95C-WE monitors popping up in very small numbers too.

Mine arrived today in what was the longest tech-related box I've ever seen.

Got it hooked up to the M1 MBA over usb-c, running 5120x1440.... and its incredible!

I can kind of see what people are saying about the apps at each extreme of the screen would benefit from the screen having a more aggressive curve, but if you're not using the monitor for gaming, I'm not sure if this would be a great idea. On my main desktop I have Apple Music at one end and a couple of messenger apps at the other, so its not stuff I'm going to be interacting with all the time.

The footprint isn't as big as I thought it would be with the stand. I'm now not sure if I'll need/want to get an arm for it.

Already mentioned in a different discussion, but once again:

Can't really explain why, but:

Just got my Samsung C49, hooked it up via TB3->DP Adapter + DP cable (all rated for 8K60Hz) - booted up into macOS - was automatically set to 5120x1440 - only had to switch from 60 to 120Hz in the dropdown menu, didn't do anything else.
After first shutdown behaved a bit flaky, but after setting the DP-Version "down" to 1.2 everything worked nicely (even though 5120x1440@120HZ is supposed to need about 26Gbit and DP 1.2 only delivers about 17Gbit it's working without hiccups...
When set to 60Hz I can also choose HDR in Display settings

I also received my LG 49WL95C-WE. Box states that it's a 49WL95C-W but on labels, both on the box and on the display itself, it states it's a 49WL95C-WE. No idea what's the difference. Maybe the extra E stands for enterprise?

Great display btw, everything worked right out of the box. Didn't had to change DP 1.4 to DP 1.2 or whatsoever. Native 5120x1440 is indeed incredible.

Only issue I seem to have is that the M1 MBA is temperamental with waking the monitor from sleep. Its connected over USB-C at the moment and tbh, I've had similar issues with USB-C since day one back in 2016 with the MBP.
