that's nonsense. if you don't need something right now then that alone is a "possible reason" to wait.

Maybe his 2 year old machine is perfectly adequate and the new iPads will be attractive enough that he can just get one of those and wait for the next cycle of Airs or Pros.

Maybe they announce that Mav is coming out in December.
Maybe there are any number of reasons why waiting wouldn't be a bad idea. In fact, when it comes to a purchase like this I can't think of a single reason to wait other than the fact that you simply can't (or just don't want to).

no your ideas are nonsense. If someone wants a computer, why would they wait unless an update is imminent. The airs were just updated, and he will receive Mavericks for free if it is released on the 22nd. If it is released in december like you think, it will be a $29 upgrade. I think 99.99999999% of people would prefer to use a computer for two months for a small fee of $29 if they want to upgrade in december. You are buying a $1200+++ computer and you are going to hold off because in two months you will save $29???? Dumbest logic I've ever heard.

DO NOT WAIT!!! There is ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE IN DOING SO.

This guy is not debating IF he wants to get a new computer, or IF he wants an air or pro, if that were the case, yes wait.

If you KNOW you want a new computer, BUY IT NOW, you will get no benefit from waiting other than wishing you had the computer to use during the time you are sitting there waiting. The battery life upgrades alone are worth upgrading to a new air.

I would personally get the 13" because I think the 11" is a little too small personally for the type of work I do, but if you are just a casual user, the 11" would be fine.

Why did you choose the 11" MBA over the 13" ?

@All would you suggest me to get an 11" MBA + external monitor, or just the 13" MBA as base machine?

Portability! 13" is pretty portable but I wanted something more portable that I could take to work everyday and to all my meetings. I leave home everyday with my Air fully charged. I have a folio case for it so the only thing I take is the laptop (i.e. no cable). Battery is so good that by the end of the day, it will be sitting at around 70%.

I think I will go for the 11' as well since you are so happy with yours. At home you hook it up to an external monitor + keyboard&mouse?

Really - this is the dumbest logic you have ever heard? if you don't need a computer now, why wouldn't you wait - even if it would only cost you $29?

you better believe if I thought I could save $30 or so I would wait a few weeks. He has gone 2 years without a computer, what's a few more days? I didn't say i thought it would be released in December. And the concept of "worth" is a very subjective one. It may be worth it to him to wait and see what's coming next. Maybe not. To claim that someone urging him to wait doesn't know what he is talking about is silly. He is obviously on the fence, so he doesn't HAVE to have it.

I knew I wanted the air about 8 months ago, but I waited because as you said the update was imminent. But then I waited some more because we had a tax-free weekend coming up here. So I didn't end up buying it for over a month and saved $70 or so. Was that illogical? No? So where is the cut off for you - somewhere between $0 and $70? Waiting for something isn't fun, but i'd rather have my $70 (or if I were him $30)

Either way none of this is the issue - the posturing that there's a right or wrong answer to this question is ridiculous.

Hmm, wait 2 months for a computer that costs $1200 to save $29. STUPID. I don't care how you slice it. Not to mention the fact that it's not going to be released in december, it's going to be released pretty close to the 22nd since it just went GM.

Waiting because you know you have a tax free weekend coming is a different story, you are waiting on a known event which will save you money. By him waiting for the event on the 22nd he is NOT going to save any money because apple will give him a free copy of mavericks through the up to date program as they always do. Stop acting like he has any reason to wait.

Yes, when you know there will be an update, it's worth the wait. If you are waiting on a back to school sale, worth the wait. If you are waiting for a tax free weekend, worth the wait.

If you are waiting for a copy of the OS that you will get for free without waiting, DON'T WAIT.

It's pretty simple. The fact that you would seriously wait to buy a computer for ABSOLUTELY NO REASON, does prove you don't know what you are talking about.

Please show me what benefit he will get from waiting other than telling me "he could wait, so he should wait" Yeah, he could wait, doesn't mean it's going to help him, thus it's a stupid decision to make.

You can feel comfortable buying now since the MBA's were just updated a few months ago. Oct. 22nd is all about iPads; if any Macs are unveiled/announced they will be the new Mac Pro's and/or Haswell rMBP's.

Better yet, use RefurbMe to auto-notify you when a refurbished base 13" MBA enters Apple's inventory and buy it for $929.

Here's my 2 bits. I would just get it now if you really want it. In the end what's $30? Here's where it gets a little sticky for me. I was really stoked about Mavericks when I first saw it. Mostly for the power saving features and the tagging. Now, that being said, iOS 7 has been anything but a smooth release for Apple. Don't get me wrong, at the end of the day it's a solid upgrade but even in the hyper controlled iOS environment that Apple presides over, the basic security issues are proof that you can't account for everything. The OSX environment is far more wide open as far as variables. There will be some problems right out of the gate. It's inevitable and to be expected. That's why I would just go ahead and get it now. Then, give Mavericks a few months to iron itself out.

If you are waiting for financial reasons, you might consider waiting for black friday deals if you can survive until then.

You should wait to see what happens with the retina macbook pro 13".

Seems like it would be a better buy.

Check Macrumors frontpage- it seems next year the Air will get a redesign which includes a retina level display.

Still a great machine, I love the 12 hours of battery and most importantly how thin it is... but the screen isn't even hd.

HD starts at 720p
