How rude. I asked about meeting at the store for diagnostics and he replies,
"It's in the box a$$hole."

Yeah I don't care if it's new. For that price or even a higher price, I don't find it much to ask for precautions right?

I appreciate the help even at this time of day.

The advice to meet in a public place is best, somewhere you can sit and open the box before handing over the cash. Also If possible take a friend with you.

Honestly, if someone asked me to meet them at the Apple Store to do diagnostics on a computer I was selling, I would tell them off too. You're being a little obsessive. Just meet up and see what it's all about. Don't bring cash if you're worried about being ripped off.

Youre right. I guess I was being too cautious.

I don't think you are being too cautious...I've known people to buy something that was all boxed up in the original packaging and they assumed it was in good condition but when they got it home and plugged it in...nothing. I understand it sounds like a great deal but sometimes what's too good to be true really is too good to be true... You never know what someone is capable of when they think you are carrying a large amounts of cash around.

if someone is willing to call a potential customer/buyer a name i wouldn't even want to deal with them...

kind of agree here. I wouldn't want to deal with going to the apple store and waiting; etc. Put it this way if you bought it on ebay you couldn't ask him to take it to apple first. You never know if the ebay macbooks are stolen either.

Do what the other guy said. Meet him at starbucks. Dont have cash on you. Take down his license plate. thats all you need to do. Ive never been screwed on craigslist. Just dont be an idiot and you'll be fine.

And if he can't meet you in a public place tell him to ******* off. or take a cop buddy with you :) i did that once when i meet a guy to sell my old rims in a random parking lot near my house. I had my friend in his cruiser pull in right behind me lol.

In the box means nothing. I can unpackage something and repackage it to look like new.

A guy I know was selling his Rolex and the buyer wanted to meet at an authorized dealer to verify that it was authentic. So they met in the store, the jeweler verified the authenticity and they left the store to do the transaction. That's no different than meeting at the genius bar to run diagnostics on the laptop.

And if it's such a great deal, why hasn't he sold it by now?

Cut the deal. Name calling is NOT appropriate regardless of the stated condition or why you're asking. They could have responded and said, "Not necessary...the machine is sealed box and you can verify for yourself when we meet". It's not what you say, it's how you say it.

I second this. If the person is already rude when they want to sell it, what will they be like in person?

Secondly, at that price, if it was a legit deal, it'd probably be gone and sold to the first caller. As my econ prof once said, "when you find a $100 bill on the street, the first question to ask is 'Why me?'"

Suckers are born every day, 1200$ 15" new MBPs are not.

Skip it. There is no amount of talk that could get me to bring cash to a transaction like this. Or even entertain it.
