MBP 15 ' vs MBP 17' HI-RES

"standard size backpack"? I don't think there is a w3c-esque standards committee for backpacks.

That said, my coworker used to put his 17" in a 15" swiss bag, and it worked for a while, but eventually it tore the zipper seams.
There is no committee. I'm referring to the size of a regular backpack.

It depends what type of application you're benchmarking. If it's a game for example then having it run at a higher resolution on the 17" would obviously lower the frame rate. Of course you could simply lower the resolution to match the 15".

But I'm sure I've read quite a few times that the graphics card in the 17" automatically clocks higher when the demand is there than the 15". I think I read it on the www.barefeats.com site when they were doing a comparison.

Anyone wanna confirm this? Or am I wrong?

Yeh im mainly talking about gaming. Wow that website was very helpful dude...cheers!

Got a question....Do you know why they clock the 17" at higher speeds? Is it cause its got more place and runs cooler?

Im defo gona go for a 17" then..

Just gota hang about till round april to have enough £

Speaking of which I sometimes use my sister's laptop bag which is supposed to be for a 15" old style, non-widescreen laptop. But it fits the 17" MBP PERFECTLY which surprised me quite a bit.

I think the fact that it has more space inside to run cooler thanks to the larger case was the reason cited for the higher maximum clock speeds.

Well, you may have to wait but at least you'll end up with the multi touch trackpad and possibly MacBook style keys. So it'll be well worth it!

Reckon its possible for them to underclock a 8800 and stick it in there?
Alien ware comes out in HDMI output 8800 512mb ram on a 15inch

Like ive always said...personally i dont mind about even 4hour batter life :)

its true. the 8600 in the 17" is slightly overclocked to produce better frame rates...even at a higher res.

Look, people, I didn't mean to be a wiseass. I'm just saying that I have a normal, fairly large backpack that my 15" MBP doesn't really fit in. That's all I'm saying.
