I wouldn't give up 1920x1200 for anything. The LED display is blindingly bright on highest setting and I can sit in full on sunlight.

I hear about the 17" vs 15" debates or even the 13" vs 15" debates almost every single day on the forums and I have to say to the people that claim the 17" 'isn't as portable'... get to a gym.

really? 2 more inches and 2 more pounds is the difference? really? I used to have a dell about 8 years ago that weighed 13 pounds.. I could have used it as a hand to hand weapon in a mugging.. *that* was a bit heavy... and it couldn't touch the power of the desktops available at the time..

the mbp has the display and the horsepower to totally replace a desktop.. it looks good, it's light and thin and is no bigger than it needs to be to hold a 17" screen... the only real issue is money.. the price jump to 17" is big... but too heavy? too big? Deluded.

And people say the MacBook Air is bad value because it's overpriced and underfeatured compared to the MacBook (or MacBook Pro), even though it's 2 pounds lighter, 2 inches smaller (MBP), and a whole lot thinner.

if they had a 'Macbook Brick' that was an inch thicker had another battery and 2 more drives and weighed 5 more pounds I'd happily buy it. and club people over the head with it.

My friend has a dell 17" WUXGA screen
and i think the resolution is wonderful
putting it on a desk far away would suck
but otherwise...
its a great plus
i would go for it!

They difference in font size between the 1920x1200 and 1680x1050 isn't drastic, so get the HR.

I had the 17" MBP Hi-Res when they first came out...after using it for about half a year I decided I was tired of the eye strain (and carrying around an enormous laptop), so I sold it and got a 15" when the Penryn MBPs came out. I've been so much happier ever since.

To each his own though...
