Just thought I'd throw in my tuppence of knowledge.

I'm on a Mini running Tiger so I know its not a direct comparison, but I got a problem last november where the occasional app, including Safari, Mail, Preview and, oddly, Finder, would act as if it were running through treacle, like insanely slow.

So I tried fiddling with settings, and nothing much happened. Then I got bored and started playing with more exotic key commands, and eventually got round to resetting the P-RAM on startup.

Boof, the Mini started behaving like it was running on rocket fuel and the processor was suffering from delusions of grandeur (picture a 3GHz Mini... thats what it thought it was). I was amazed, it was running faster than it ever had beforehand. And it still is, although slightly slower because the hard drive only has 12GB free space left...

So maybe try that?

Hello,
what about this one?

In the thread I got this graphic from, they told me it is well known, that the Geforce drivers suck on OSX. As you can see the x1600 in the 2.33 MBP works better than the 8600m GT.
Now I know for sure why I cant use Sketchup and Archicad on OSX smoothly. Seems I have to wait for a graphic update till I can use OS10 again. What a pitty...
