MBP 2011 13" Constant High Pitched Humming?

It's coming from the bottom right (I'm guessing that's where the optical drive is) and a little bit from the left where the hard drive is too but the right side is definitely stronger. The humming is there as soon as I start up the computer and the right side also has this weird fan like sound that oscillates. Does anyone know what this could be caused by?

It's probably just the HDD. They can be noisier than the CPU fans. If it bothers you a lot you can get an SSD.

I thought the hard drive was on the bottom left of the MBP though? Isn't the bottom right the optical drive?

the HDD is at the front of the computer, next to the optical drive. if you are typing on the keyboard it is under your right wrist, unless you type weird. the battery is on the front left side and under the trackpad. the optical drive is in the back where the slot is, obviously, and on the back left side to the center is the logic board.

That would be the old MBPs, like the Titanium and nonunibody MBPs.

Since PowerBook G4 they were placed on the bottom left but only until unibody came out.

I recently sold my 2011 13 MBP, this also had a HDD you could hear constantly, if you pressed to the right of the touchpad the noise would stop. So they are either fitted poorly and need some damping, it's as if they are slighly loose with light pressure creating silence.

Maybe that MBP was a defect.
I had mine for over 6 months and never heard such a thing from it.

This is the same problem I have except recently it started having a high pitch noise that got louder when you pressed down on it...

MBP 2011 13" hard drive read/write sounds?

Are reading/writing hard drive sounds every few seconds or so normal? It's not very loud but it just makes a scratching sound every few seconds or so.

Apple Portables: Hard drives and noise

If your drive is constantly active when you're not running any apps, check to see if Spotlight is indexing by looking at the Menu Bar icon:

It's not constantly active... it just makes like one clicking sound every few seconds.
It depends on what's running on your system. It certainly doesn't sound abnormal in any way. I wouldn't worry about it.

It's most likely your hard disk parking read/write heads. Unix-based systems can do that pretty excessively but nothing to really worry about.

13" MBP 2011 Loud Hard Drive Sounds?

Every time I do something on the laptop, like scroll or load a webpage or open up an app there is a loud scratching sound (reading/writing sounds?). I was wondering if that was normal...

Scratching sounds could be normal, but I'd take a backup of your data just in case and prepare for the worst case scenario: drive failure.

That said, call Apple and see what they say.

MBP 2011 13" Hard Drive Whirring Sound?

The sound sounds like a fan but it's coming from the hard drive and it gets louder after a click and then gets quieter and then louder and then quieter and so on... after the hard drive reads/writes something, the sound becomes quieter but soon after it gets louder again. Does anyone know what's wrong with it or is it normal?

MBP 13" 2011 Is this sound normal?

It's not that easy to hear because I don't have a good recorder but it's coming from the hard drive and it's a click followed by this loud fan like noise then another click and it becomes quiet, then click and fan noise again... it's easier to hear towards the end.

Ok, the only moving parts in the computer are: fan, Hard Disk, Superdrive (when CD is in). Here's my experience: Grinding, and mechanical sounds = superdrive. Whirring sounds & Clicking = Bad Hard Disk motor, Screetching, buzzing, grinding sounds = fans.

If the clicking is coming from the hard disk, then get the hard disk checked. The fan-like sound is either a fan or a DVD in the drive attempting to spin up (which would explain why the noise stops and starts). Take a trip to the genius bar and get it sorted out. Make sure you copy all of your info first.

MBP 2011 13" Hard Drive Noise? (with recording)

Can anyone listen to this and tell me if this is normal... if you listen to the whole thing, you'll hear that the drive clicks and there's a louder fan-like noise and then it clicks again and gets quiet and keeps on doing that... and does anyone have a fix for this? :( It's really annoying in quiet settings.
