I believe it will be sometimes in mid-April or maybe even May, about 1 year after the introduction of the last revision MacBook Pro. Look how long it took Apple to update the Mac Pro from the 2009 Nehalem to the 2010 Westmere...over 550 days!!! That is like a year and a half we are talking about here people. It isn't uncommon for Apple to wait this long before updating an entire product line. Look at the MacBook Air...it took over 600 days from the last revision to October 2010 for Apple to update the MacBook Air, which hadn't been updated since 2008!!!

Well, MacBook Pro isn't Mac Pro nor MBA. We all know that Apple isn't that interested on professional market anymore and Mac Pro is solely aimed for that. MBA is a different beast as well. It was introduced only couple of years ago. The previous update for MBA was in June 2009, not in 2008.

MBPs are the Apple's best selling Macs, it has never taken more than ~10 months to update them and I don't see why Apple would dramatically break this pattern. There are Macs that have received fairly frequent updated, such as Mac Mini which was nearly dead before the early 2009 update.

I'm not saying it's impossible that the update will be later than April but it fights against Apple's past update cycle.

And, here you go...

I'm hoping the new MBPs will be released sometime in February/early March. I've just sold my iMac and I don't want to be too long without a computer.

I'll say either 2/15 or 3/1.

I can't wait though, I'll be using my first real "adult" tax return to buy myself a new one. I'm still using a 2007 Black Macbook, which I maxed out the RAM at 2GB and has like a 2.0c2d or something.

Hoping for February, but I'm thinking that Apple will want to maximize the iPad 2.0 PR circus.

Therefore, I'm guessing the announcement will come in February, but no orders until late March/early April. Bah.

this may be stupid to ask but will the sandy bridge upgrade be worth me waiting possibly 2-3 months for a purchase?
(I'm a student needing a mobile machine this semester, probably going to buy an i5 refurb anyway)

Not if u need one now. I would go with the referb if I were you

Rumor has it that the announcement will come February 30th with Apple's big press conference, which will be televised, but it is payperview only and is almost as expensive as MMA and poorly done pornography, so I wouldn't purchase it.

Webcast live from Macworld San Francisco, happening this week. Steve Jobs is giving the keynote address. Tuesday at 9am.

(This is a joke, Apple has completely pulled out of Macworld. Apple used to always intro their new products at Macworld Expos, but no more)
