Will keyboard cover help?

I would expect that any cover would interfere with the ability to feel the activation point of the keys, causing you to type harder to be sure you depressed the key fully, which will just make it louder.

Sigh. The point of the video is that with the same amount of force, both keyboards are equal volume but different pitch.
Ah ok, fair enough. Can you compare the click sound of the two keyboards with just the minimum force needed to depress the key? I have the magic keyboard 2, it doesn't make loud noise when you type normally. Can't compare to the 2016 MBP, as I have the 2015.

Is it just me or does anyone think it's getting slightly quieter with use? Either I'm learning not to bottom out the keys as hard or it's breaking in, or both. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the sound. Whatever the case, it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

When you type without pounding hardly any sound at all.

The bad news: my machine is going to the Genius Bar today because the display started going crazy after a high cpu job, and nothing has made it stop. Will try and record a new video if it's still in my possession in a couple hours. (But now I'm nervous recommending the machine -- ran handbrake for a couple hours and it seems to have physically damaged it so that it flickers when using integrated graphics, and the shape of the flickering is the two windows that were open at the point the machine locked up)

I am a student and the keyboard is a dealbreaker. I cannot use this notebook at the library. So much for the education focus of Apple.

They are teaching you that pounding the keyboard is not proper typing technique.

In actual use I find the new MBP much quieter than the old one. Same volume, probably, but the lower pitch doesn't travel as far.

Ok. I find that the keyboard is actually much less noisy than the old ones now that I've had mine for a week.

Of course,I have other major problems with my tMBP, so...

Sorry, I think I'm getting annoyed because my wifes asleep next to me, and I'm trying to do some school work. Yet while my 2015 15" rMBP was functional in this situation - the 2016 13" is not.

I've been trying to type slower/lighter, but it's still significantly louder.

It is louder. I noticed it from the first minutes using new laptop :( Trackpad sound is also very weird, more metal i would say, not as nice and soft as previous model.

I must admin that new keyboard allows you to type faster, but this clicking noise is driving me mad!

You can always smash the **** out of them and maybe they'll soften over time
I'd rather smash ***** out of Tim Cook to fix this! I've been using my new laptop for 2 days, now. Now typing from my old one.... and i think i might stay with it. Touch bar is a complete gimmick unfortunately.

First it looks pixelated. Don't expect iPhone screen quality there. You actually can see the display there, keys look deeper, not on the surface.

If something is reflecting in the touchbar, you cannot see the keys (obviously, but it is a big flaw for office lighting i think).

IK couldn't agree more.

They keyboard defiantly takes some getting used to. I get typos non-stop. But I think we'll learn to accept and master it. I doubt they'll regress to the old design moving forward.

Totally agree about the TB. DPI is ****. The blacks aren't as black as you want them which exposes the OLED strip under the bar. I also think the brightness of the TB sucks too. Wish you could increase it.

I don't find the touch bar very useful as I rarely use it. But who knows what they'll do. One can say 3D Touch Is a gimmick too. I rarely use it.

Im definitely not too happy with this release, and to top it off its very expensive, but what are we apple loyalists gonna do? Get a ****** windows machine? No way. Apple has us by the balls and it feels like we're being abused. :)

I tried typing on 2017 model in store and the keyboard is much quieter than on my 2016 model.

I got my 2017 Macbook Pro last week. Keys are noticeably louder than my Macbook Air 11' 2015. But a LOT louder? No.

Is it just me or does anyone think it's getting slightly quieter with use? Either I'm learning not to bottom out the keys as hard or it's breaking in, or both. Or maybe I'm just getting used to the sound. Whatever the case, it doesn't bother me as much anymore.

Definitely getting quieter with use. At least on my 2017 model, either that or I'm getting more used to it.

Call me weird but I actually like the sound and feel way better than my 2015 Macbook Air.

I actually use my TB quite a bit - love how I can highlight stuff in Word, switch tabs, and deal with prompts on some applications without ever leaving the keyboard. I dislike having an extra action to change brightness and audio level, but whatever.

Oh come on. I've been to 4+ college campuses as a student myself (COC, VVC, UCR, UCLA) and been in their libraries. Every library has rows and rows of computers with normal keyboards clacking away at all hours of the day and night. There is NO WAY that this keyboard is preventing you from using it in a library.

I think all of us who use an Apple have some level of Reality Distortion Field within us. :p

There is some difference between the 2016 and 2017 keyboards. Anyway, my 2016 keyboard is getting replaced, I hope it is the 2017 that I get, and will update on my personal experience when I get the machine back.
