It would be nice if those using FaceTime/iMessage could chat with those using any other IM client like Y!, MSN, AOL, etc.

Also it would be great if Apple made FaceTime and iMessage into one App. If one is in iMessage and wants to video chat that opens FaceTime which is a separate App. Why not make it one App??

Apparently thread is dead and nobody seems to care a dime about it, sad :( :(

We still have stone-age friends not willing to move away from Yahoo Messenger and need our bloody webcam to work with it !

I am in EXACTLY the same situation as yours .....On Mac Air 2013 model and it DOES NOT WORK :(

I have the exact same problem with Yahoo Messenger and a brand new 2013 13" Mac Air. My cam will not work at all, though it works fine with Skype. Seems to be a defect in the new MBA. Does anyone have a solution?

Also just got a brand new Mac Air and same problem. Worked fine on my old Mac Air for the past two years but this one on Maverick is exhibiting a number of problems i did not have with the old Air.

As for those that say switch to Skype. I switched years ago and have it open almost 24/7. There is really only one person that i have on YM. She is the mother of my daughter and she is stalker. She would without exaggeration bother me 100 times a day on Skype so I am happy to keep her on the YM account where I can control communication to once a day.

Last night my daughter really wanted to see me but alas this problem with YM no longer working with the internal cam on the mac. It took Apple about 10 days to deliver my new Mac which was disappointing and then last night was to be the first time to chat in two weeks.

I have searched for a solution but it does not look like there is one. I have a work around I will try later today. I have always had Parallels install with Windows and have yet to install it on my new mac. I think there is a very good change the CAM will work through Windows. I will let people know if it works.

I have just finished loading VMware Fusion with Windows 7 and YM. No joy with the cam. Windows YM also reports can't be found so I guess it not accessing the hardware directly or the new Air has new cam hardware that is not supported

my next idea is to buy an external cam and use it for YM this is a cheap and easy solution if it works. I think it should.

OK this worked perfectly. Got a cheap cam and worked on YM worked without doing anything else. Its a work around and given the price of of cams these days an inexpensive work around.

Yes another solution

I just got iGlasses and magic my cam not works with YM It just worked simple as that. Its not expensive software and gives you other features

Shows you how easy it would be for apple to fix this problem. Apple I fear have lost the plot now. Hope it is a slow decline as there stuff is still better than everything else available.

Same issue

I have the same issue. I was on yahoo messenger and my camera was working just fine and then about two days ago it stopped letting me do video calls or open my camera for the other person to view. I was able to view there camera and now it is telling me another camera is open, I have no other camera. My webcam works fine on facebook and skype, I don't like to use skype because I don't like it. I also have someone on there that I don't want to speak to 24/7 so I prefer messenger, I just don't understand what is up with my camera anymore. Don't tell me to get an external camera as I have no money for that crap, thank you
